Single Layer Dvd Burn Showing Capacity Of 223.8 Mb

matyw

Question

Hello,

I have a macbook pro 17 inch and OS 10.6.8.

All of a sudden I am having problems burning single layer DVDs.

WHen I select my media to DVD-DL or CD it shows the correct value for the capacity of the media except for single layer DVDs.

It did the same for different versions of toast on my system. (Toast 10 and Toast 11) Very strange.

My superdrive is dead and I have a USB LG external but it was all working fine until yesterday when a burn failed.

It shows the capacity for a dual layer DVD as 223.8MB so if I try a data disk and put a 500mb file on it it wants to span it over 3 disks.

I also can't figure out how to get the osx burn to recognize my usb burner.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Matt

The space-available issue seems to happen for some users. The fix is to trash the Toast plist and prefs files in the User>Library>Preferences folder and relaunch Toast.

Shutting down the Mac and waiting a few seconds before starting up (not just a restart) may get the drive recognized again.
