Get "easy Vhs Has Stopped Working" Message When I Close The Program

LFeuer

Question

Hi everyone,

Each time I close Easy VHS to DVD 3, I get a window pop up that says "Roxio Easy VHS to DVD has stopped working." It has two options, to check online for a solution, and close the program. The second option is just to close the program. If I click on Show Details, the Problem Event Name is APPCRASH, and the Fault Module Name is ntdll.dll. I had a lot of trouble installing the new version. It kept failing when it tried to install an older version of Direct X onto my Windows 7 Home Premium PC. I got it to install when I found a similar issue for installing Creator 2012 on the Roxio support page. That gave me a work-around to bypass the load of Direct X. The program works fine, up to the point where I click the red X in the top-right corner to close the program. That is when the error window pops up. Does anyone else get this error when closing the program? If so, what is the fix? Thanks in advance for your help with this.

My Roxio Easy VHS to DVD 3 Plus also reports the "stopped working" error when closing. Both closing by clicking on the "X" or by Exiting via the File Menu. And has done so ever since the first, second, third and now the fourth install on Win7Pro64bit with all the latest updates. I've tried all the available updates to the app but nothing changes the symptoms. Otherwise the application works fine. Just irritating as all get out.

The only Repair option shown was in the Control Panel>Programs and Features is when the left mouse button was clicked. It went through the Repair process but no change in the symptoms. Tried that three times, re-booting each time, but it didn't cure the problem.

In Roxio Easy VHS to DVD 3 Plus selecting Support on the menu bar gives the option to Check for Updates... which does go to the Roxio web site wherein it states "There is no update for this product."

I'm a little confused about your instructions to install the app multiple times if necessary.

Do you mean to install the app right back over the existing installation or use Programs and Features to remove it and then install again?

Nope, no idea :(

I have seen it on one of my PC's and then only on occasion...

So you know, the 'Update' offer during install only occurs IF there is an update to the installer when it checks the Roxio Servers...

And the 'Repair' option can only show IF you already have an install of the software on that PC -_-

Lastly, doing a clean image of your OS and install of the EVD 3 each time, IS NOT repeating the install "2 or 3 times" as I mentioned in Post #11.

Might want to try a repair a couple more times (reboots along the way) to see if that will do it ;)

Burning DVD done so as promised here are the step by step procedures and the results of following Mr. Hardin's "fix it" suggestions.

Software: Roxio Easy VHS to DVD 3 Plus, Build 301B72A, VH3, ENU

System:

Intel i5-4670K Desktop Processor 3.4 GHz 4 core

GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-UD3H LGA 1150 Intel Z87

2x4GB G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3/1600 F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL

Gigabyte GV-N640OC-2GI Video Card

Intel 335 Series 240 GB Solid State Drive

Seagate Barracuda 1 TB Hard Drive

Corsair CX600 Power Supply

LG GH24NSB0 Optical Drive

NZXT Source 210 Elite 210E-001 black on black

OS: Windows 7 Pro 64 bit (with all the current updates)

1. Loaded an Acronis True Image image of the system from before purchasing Roxio Easy VHS to DVD 3 Plus

(VHS2DVD3+). (12/27/2014 Backup 13.tib)

2. Checked for MS updates to the OS and Office 2013: Needed several. (Expected, considering how old the image is.) Installed and cleaned up afterwords.

3. Emptied the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download directory. Ran MS Disk Cleanup, Piriform CCleaner

Professional V5.04.5151 (64bit), and Registry Healer 5.4.

4. Ran Intel SSD Toolbox Optimizer on the system drive (Intel 240 GB SSD).

5. Saved image of system drive to 1 TB hard drive for repeatability & future use. (Backup 19.tib 3/25/2015). This involves rebooting a couple of times. No problems noted.

6. Turned off MS Security Essentials Real Time Protection, Windows Firewall, double checked to make sure Windows Defender was off. CCleaner and Registry Healer are single run, non resident applications so they were already off.

7. Did NOT plug in the Roxio Video Capture USB device at all.

8. Inserted the VHS2DVD3+ DVD. I always have Autorun turned off so opened Windows Explorer and ran setup.exe as Administrator.

9. Selected English, accepted agreement, entered Product Key and followed the prompts.

10. At NO TIME did I get an offer to update. Ever.

11. Install finished and was asked to reboot. Clicked Yes.

12. Reboot finished, still no offer to update.

13. Turned MS Security Essentials Real Time Protection and the Windows Firewall back on and rebooted again. Still no offer to repair.

14. Clicked on Desktop shortcut and VHS2DVD3+ opened the Registration page. Registered.

15. Opened one of my already recorded video captures and played it. No problem.

16. Removed video from app and clicked File>Exit.

17. Result: Error Message: "Roxio Easy VHS to DVD has stopped working". Same as before.

18. Closed system down and restored it using the Backup 19.tib image.

19. Repeated steps 6 through 18 FOUR times with no change in the result. Alternated between using File>Exit and the Terminate button (X). No difference in the symptoms.

20. Restored system from Backup 19.tib and then created the recommended additional account under a different name. Made it a member of the Administrators Group.

21. Rebooted and logged on to the new account.

22. Repeated the same installation steps outlined above. When closing the app, the results were always the same. "Roxio Easy VHS to DVD has stopped working".

Now what? Any more suggestions?

I beg to differ with your first point. Mr. Swolski did come back on 08 May 2013 - 10:59 AM stating that "Did as described above - didn't solve the problem." As to your second point... Not yet. I am in the middle of a 19 DVD project and intend to finish that before trying your "fix" process. When I do I will be making an image of my current system with Acronis True Image, then I'll remove all found instances and remnants of EZVHS2DVD3+ from my 256 GB SSD system drive, followed by attempting your method as presented. I WILL NOT however resort to cluttering my system with ANY additional accounts as your final posting to Mr. Swolski suggests.

You can see Swolski never came back after 2 YEARS!!!!

Did you even bother to try the repair I laid out?

It broke ~ fix it!

First thing to do is to turn off your Anti Virus, Firewalls, Registry Cleaners, etc.

Unplug your Roxio Video Capture USB Device and put it aside until you are completely finished.

Now insert your Roxio Disc.

Be sure you accept the offer to Check for Updates (this is for Roxio, not Windows)

When you reach the screen where
Repair
is offered, choose that!

When the Repair competes, turn your AV & Firewall back on and reboot.

I requested and received a refund for the product, even though I was past the "trial" period. I went to

https://shop.roxio.com/store?Action=DisplayContactUsPage&Env=BASE&Locale=en_US&SiteID=sonic

and selected the "Return Order", then "I Want To Return A Digital (downloadable) product", then "I Have An Irresolveable Technical Issue" options. In the "Describe The Problem" area I cited the numerous, unresolved tickets I had pertaining to the "Crash" problem.

In order to receive the refund I had to "digitally" sign a "Letter Of Destruction" asserting that I'd deleted/destroyed all copies I had of the s/w - those on my PC or somehow externalized. Refund showed up on my credit card within the week.

I am getting the same error message upon closing this program. I am pissed because I can't get the video to work and I have tried two different computers. The audio is also choppy. I am trying to get a refund-this program really sucks.

I will add - I get the same error, a window pop-up that says "Roxio Easy VHS to DVD has stopped working", that M/S only says that a a problem caused the program to stop working correctly and that they'll let me know when a solution is found.

I'm running Vista. The program installation was as an upgrade to the product, and occurred with not problems.

Any input? Do I need to report this to Support, or will they pick it up from here?

Larry

There is no fix since nobody else has reported that problem.

Why did you decide to "bypass the load of DirectX"? The program does not use the "latest" DirectX.
