How To Save A Production

Fotiu22Fan

Question

If I have a production that is not complete in Creator 10, what is the proper way to save this when upgrading to Creator 12. Also, can I save a production that is not complete, uninstall Creator 10, re-install and then put the production back into Creator 10 to finish it? Will upgrading the service pakcs for Creator 10 have any effect on productions in the works? Thank You in Advance, Anthony

I'm not sure that this was mentioned before but if you haven't, clear the proxy files for that project if you can. Open the project (if you can), then go to tools, options and select to clear the proxy files. They will be immediately rebuilt with only what you have in the project as you open it. The proxy files is really a roadmap to what you have in the production. They often get behind and cause some issues with ghost music and images. Usually closing the program and/ or rebooting your computer will normally clear the proxy files. Perhaps in this case, that did not happen.

Good call, Steve.

Sorry to say, I have been working backward, deleted the last 70 of 370 panels I had inserted, and all 9 songs from the production. I keep saving and rebooting everything. Still cannot get the production to display a frame to work on editing frames. Cannot output production.

Thanks for trying to Help,

Anthony

Please post a screen short. You can do it this way: Link.

Yes, try software rendering, what have you got to lose.

You could also start deleting items from the end of you project and see if you reach some point whre the problem disappears.

The opter option is to start over of course.

My first question was how to save the project so I could upgrade to Creator 2012 as I thought the software was the problem. After trying the suggestions on this posting, I have come to the conclusion the software is not the issue, but something within the production is corrupt since the other three productions work fine.

The only special effect was done very early on in the production, as I added names onto the video images. I did at least 20 clean saves after the text was added.

The Render Using: is Hardware. Should I change to software? Should I click the "Graphic Test" button next to the render using? I have never gone into that area.

The reason I went into Internal tracks was to see if the production would play after I leave Internal tracks. It does play the entire 76 minute production, video clips & photos. I cannot jump to panels of save any attempted edits. When I leave the production and return I have the original problem, a black play screen, play button does not start the production.

I thought you said you had trouble "saving your project"? Now you say you are having problems playing your project.

Why are you wasting your time with the internal tracks? They have nothing to do with your problem unless you added something to the internal tracks at some point.

Do you have any transitions, special effects in your production? If yes then delete them and try to save your project.

Have you tried switching the rendering mode? Look under Tools/Options? What is the current render setting?

What does this "As I am writing this it is 16 minutes into 76 minutes." mean? Is your project 76 minutes in length?

I don't know how to capture a screen shot and post it, if I am told how I will certainly do it.

I deleted all the music, production still not working. All the music came from CDs I ripped, nothing from the internet.

I tried to output the production to see what would happen, error came up' "Unable to build render graph"

Every time I log out, reboot computer, get back in and this production has a black screen will not play until I mess with Internal tracks button.

I went into the Internal tracks again, clicked on last panel, #360 in production. When I click done I get the original error message. After clearing the error message I can play the production. As I am writing this it is 16 minutes into 76 minutes. I cannot jump ahead to another section, it always resets to the beginning.

Hey Anthony, can you capture some screen shots of the production and add them to a post ?? Especially the lower part of the screen where it shows all of the tracks.

Capturing the entire screen with that portion opened might help.

#1 video track is main track which has short video clips and photos

#2 music track is used, full songs all from same folder

#3 stx track is used, also full songs, I use two audio tracks so the ends of the songs can be mixed. This has never caused a problem in the past.

I went into Internal tracks function just looking for anything that might tip off the problem.

I just went back into Internal track function again, now that the first two songs were deleted. Same error message appeared after hitting done button. After clearing the error message I hit the play button on the production. Once again the production started to play, but when it got to the end of the first panel (a 33 second video clip) it reset to the beginning. I cannot get out of the first panel?

Anthony

The internal tracks apply only to a selected panel. If you play the internal track it will always go back to the beginning of the panel, it will never "get out of the panel" The only way to exit the panel is to click "done". Unless you have added some audio/video/effects to the internal tracks you should not even be looking at the tracks as they have nothing to do with your problem.

At this stage I would do 2 things:

1-delete all audio Where did the audio clips come from?

or

2-start the project all over again with saves at each change to a the project

Also, as I posted above, what you are calling the "display adapter" is the prview window. The "display adapter" is a piece of hardware in your system

Did you try clearing the proxy files as I suggested?

Yes I had cleaned the proxy file, did not help.

I just clicked on the Internal Tracks button, since I didn't know what it did. I was able to open a video clip on the main display adapter. The play button worked, the panel played. When I click the done button, an error message appeared. "Cross graphic for audio object invalid. This may be caused by a faulty installation or a corrupt file".

After I clear the error message I try to play the production and it starts, but no audio. When it gets to the end of the first song, the production reset's to the beginning and the display adapter turns to a black screen again. I deleted the first two songs (which have been in place for weeks) but nothing will work again?

Please Advise,

Anthony

I went into the production, deleted the song and 10 pictures that were added since the last good save. I can delete panels, but I cannot edit and save panels. I also went to the dx setup, it said I had the most current version and it is working fine. Never even offered repair, not sure if I did this correctly? Rebooted computer and went back into Roxio. Still have problem.

When I click on a video panel, I can get the video edit screen to play the video clip, cannot save any edit to the clip. The main screen "display adapter" still remains black and buttons (FF RW play/pause)under it will not function? The other three productions all work fine.

Any other trouble shooting suggestions.

I put about 30 hours of work into this project over 6 weeks. I save the project every 5 to 10 minutes, everything was fine for 6 weeks. I do save two copies of the project. Once the project saved fine, I made a second copy and saved so both were current. The next day neither copy would show a panel in the display adapter. Should I delete the one song and 10 photos I added in before my last save? Those are the only things that are different from the last good save.

I thought that you stated previously that you could not edit that production. If you can, definitely dump the song and 10 photos, then see if all is well.

The whole scenario of making 2 copies is to save once, close VideoWave, open VideoWave again, then try to bring in the production you just saved. Then, if all is okay, save it under a different name.

If it is not okay, DON'T overwrite the previous "2nd named" production that you made previous to your last batch of changes.

Yes, remove the last things added and see if you get back to a "good project". That would have been the first thing to do after a bad save.

How do you know it was saved all good? Did you reopen each saved project again? How long in time is the final project?

I doubt that a repair will solve your problems. There is something in your source files or the way your project is assembled that is causing your problems.

Do as Bruce suggested - rebuilt the project in sections and testing at each step.

When building this 4th production, I dropped in 20 video clips, saved all good. Dropped in 200 photos saved all good. Put in 10 songs saved, all good. Added 10 photos saved all good. Added 4 photos and one song saved all good. Next day tried to open and the preview window stays black, buttons (FF play pause) below do not work. The most recent photos and songs came from the same folders on my computer that hold either the photos or songs that had been in use with this production. Nothing was imported from the internet. All my photos and videos have been in these folders for months.

I have not added any transitions yet, the 20 video clips did have text added, but that was a month ago. I have opened and used the production 10 times since the text was added. The video was from family DVDs from old 8mm film. This video was used on other productions in the past. All the photos were scanned by me, old family photos from the 1980's. All saved as JPEG files.

When I close this production, open three other productions, they all work fine, selected panel appears in the preview window as it should. The computer is less then a year old, Windows 7. I have completed 8-10 productions without this problem. Please tell me how to save the productions so if I repair, install an upgrade or un-install / re-install, I can put the production back in.

Thanks

Anthony

If you can't work on the production, it is likely corrupt. Instead of going through the repair, I would try to rebuild the corrupt production from scratch, a little at a time, and each time you save it (often), save it twice, using 2 different names. One caveat though, before you overwrite both of the previous saves, save it only once, and try to open the saved production, again.

Then, if it won't open again, you know what you added to the production that caused the problem, and you can revert back to the other last production name that you did not overwrite, and you won't have to do the entire production again.

Leave all of the photos, videos and songs that are any of your productions in the location of folders they are now. Don't move any of them as if you do and then try and reopen one of the

productions the program won't know where to find what ever you moved. And DO NOT delete any of the DMSM saved files for any of the productions. You can however delete

any of the associated DAT files that go with a particular production. (The program can re-create the dat files again).

As myguggi advised, the "display Adapter" is referring to the video card that your computer is using (what video adapter do you have in the computer) ? If the 4th production is

having a problem do to the Video adapter then that particular production (your 4th in this case) might have something in it that the video card can't handle. Have you ever checked

the video card's manufacturer for any updates ?Have you tried to use the "software" option for your production as opposed to the "Hardware" option ?

(At the top of the Videowave screen check the optiuons button and check which one you are using)

If all the other 4 projects open and can be worked on without any problem then the problem must be in your 4th project.

The "display adapter" is the "video hardware" in your system that handles the video "operation". If your display adapter is not fully supporting the DirectX program then this can mean that you are using some option in C2010 that is not compatible with your display adapter. Do you have any transitions, effects, etc in your project? Where did the video or photos in your project come from?

The screen in Videowave is the Preview Window.

Frank,

Thanks so much for helping me out. Upgrading to 2012 is totally out of the plan. Is the screen in the middle of VideoWave called the "Display Adapter"? It remains black even though the name of the frame I click on appears above this screen. One error message said, "the display adapter is not fully supporting DirectX 9.0" I read that Windows seven has DirectX 11 ? None of the buttons work below this window because the selected panel is never making it into the display adapter, I guess?

All 4 current productions were all made on this computer the same way on the same program, and yes the other three open and can be edited without a problem. I tried save as, gave it a new file name, but it won't work.

All the in progress productions have both Dat & dmsm files in My Video folder.

Where should I move these dmsm files to before repairing Creator 10? Do I do anything with the DAT files? I spent hours on these productions and want to make sure I don't lose them. This is all new to me, sorry if I am asking a lot of questions.

Thanks

Anthony

If all 4 of the Videowave productions are working fine as you suggested, but one of them canbnot be edited sounds a bit wierd. If you can't use any of the buttons on one of them I suggest that is a Videowave program problem

and not the nproduction itself. You might try saving the one that you can't edit (dmsm file) but give it a different name and then try and reopen it and see what happens. As far as the other three, I would save them again and give them a different name.

One good suggestion for saving any Videowave production is to save all of the parts being used in that particular production (photos, videos and audio) to the exact same folder. If there are any "DAT" files associated with any of these productions, You could delete mthe DAT extension files but keep the dmsm extension files for the productions. Then when you open a production the program will make a new DAT fiule for that production.

Were all 4 of the production made using the same C2010 Videowave program ? As I suggested before, if you upgrade from 2010 to 2012 there might be some inconsistances.

After saving all of the productions you might try re-installing the C2010 program but do a "REPAIR" rather thah a new install and see if that helps.
