Roxio Creator 2011 Special Edition

Sound Lubber

Question

I recorded a 40minute audio track from the Internet and had my OPTIONS set to export it to My Desktop.

I then tried to locate the title using SEARCH with no luck

It somehow landed into a folder named "Recorded Tracks"/Unknown I don't understand why it didn't land on my Desktop??

In addition - also in my "Recorded Tracks" folder (just above Roxio) there are some weird names like Robin Williams - Ben Pollack etc.

What's EXTRA WEIRD is my recording is now inside these folders also AND THE NAME OF THOSE FILES NEVER CHANGED!!!

Is it possible to export recordings to My Desktop by a title of my choice? Also are all recordings 192kb mpeg by default?

Any Help is appreciated.

Thanks

What filename did you give your captured audio? Why do you want to record to your desktop?

Exactly how did you setup your recording options?

I used only the GENERAL TAB.

Save to Temporary file shows Documents and Settings/Owner/Desktop

Filename Prefix : I chose "Trading Basics" as a name for my file

I recorded audio from a video (not YouTube) from a website I'm a member of. I watched the video and I watched the recording levels.

The only thing that was unusual was that when I pressed STOP the recording length became 51 minutes when the audio should have been only 38 minutes. I suspected something went wrong when I saw the additional time. One other note of interest.....I forgot to save as a single file....I therefore ended up with multiple tracks of varying length in a file called "Unknown"

I've got the same wacky naming business too. I think it is coming from the file we capture.

Here is a example of one track from Beatles Album I captured from you tube.

The others are just settings.

I think part of the problem may be the automated program Gracenote. Perhaps it's identifying some material in the track and trying to assign it's author - to make it easy to create a CD track list??? I wish there was a way to disable it. In the meantime I think I'll try using the Save to dialog and save it as a single track AND disconnect the WIFI before pressing STOP. Maybe it will then export without the fancy names.

Could you explain step-by-step what you are doing? In your post #3 you mention something about "recording audio from a video". Exactly what does that mean? Can you post a link to what you are trying to record?

"Save to " dialog will not save your audio.

I recorded some audio from a Internet web radio site exactly to the folder I selected with the filename I selected. So I have no idea what "fancy names" you are talking about

Posting a link wouldn't do any good since a password would be needed to access the video. Brief summary would be an investment site has a knowledge center that streams a video teaching the basics of buying and selling stock. There's a person speaking in a small window and the audio can be heard so I used the "Capture Audio with Sound Card" feature. I was able to see and set the levels and make the recording but when I hit stop the audio went to a folder "recorded tracks" in Roxio. I don't know of any other way to explain this. I think I might benefit by deleting all the files in the folder (there aren't many) and attempt the same maneuver. If a folder entitled "UNKNOWN" shows up I can safely say the wacky names have nothing to do with my efforts. I need some experience using this capture option for sure. I'm guessing when you said "Save to" will NOT save your audio you're indication that "Save To" is only a temporary file location-NOT the final location. All I want to do is take an audio file, using the Capture Audio from Sound Card and save it to a folder....nothing more. If this feature was designed for only line-in audio I can understand why it wouldn't work. Perhaps it wasn't meant to record audio online?

You are asking intelligent questions but my lack of experience is in the way. I'm going to attempt to capture audio from somethiing like YouTube and then try the previous again. This time I'll try to jot down the settings. I will also empty the recorded tracks folder first.

I didn't see a an option for a comment so I'll have to reply to my own post just previous to this one.

I erased/deleted everything in the "Recorded Tracks" Folder (which was apparently in My Music)

I then set the options to record a "single Track"

I then proceeded to make a one minute recording from a music video online. I titled it and 'voila' it worked perfectly

Next I proceeded to access my private site bringing up the instructional video and made a recording. 'Voila' it worked again.

Result: No wacky names (they must have already been there-this laptop was a display and perhaps someone loaded the files into the folder)

More importantly the only option after I hit stop was to open the file in Sound Editor-which is perfectly fine. Previous to this when I hit stop the file went through some sort of processing or rendering-which I didn't expect. It didn't happen this time.

I guess it's fixed?! I anticipate an excellent 40min recording when I get the next chance to make it.

My only mystery left was why did a process or rendering operation evolve after I hit stop (and the Gracenote ICON showed up as well)on the first round??? and how did the 'named wacky folders' get the same recording. Initially I had OPTIONS set to Separate tracks but I still don't know how the audio placed itself inside the folders-or possibly created them. As a reply mentioned above it may have been something hidden in the file being recorded at the time.
