Convert Mkv Files

ray12

Question

Hello. My son has gotten into creating light music video editing using Premiere Pro CS5. He was using a Sony camcorder that creates mkv files. He normally uses mov files with his Nikon D3100. Videowave 2012 recognizes mkv files but Premeire Pro CS5 doesn't. My son works with Premiere Pro. I don't. Since Roxio 2012 recognizes mkv what is the best format to convert it to to retain the quality and HD of the MKV file? Premiere seems to have a lot of formats. It recognizes divx but not mkv. I don't understand many of the formats available in Roxio to export it to. There are just so many video formats. I have only been using avi and mpeg-2. Any help appreciated.

See what the native format of the MKV is from the camcorder ~ 1920 X 1080 25mbps for example.

Output to ANY file type that will retain that format AND be acceptable to Adobe.

Also keep in mind your FINAL output format... No point in dealing with anything much better than the final results ;)
