Question

:(Hello people- I have some old VHS from kids and when I use the regular RECORD DVD option on the left-- and press play on the VCR-- it reords FINE--- BUT-- it seems that the VHS tape has on it about 2 hours and about 10 minutes ! THUS when I watch the DVD that has now been recorded onto-- I MISS the last 10 minutes of tape from the VHS tape. I wrote to ROXIO and they said to use the right hand option that says to RECORD,EDIT and SAVE---and then choose the START NEW PROJECT and then to enable the time for 3 hours option. I tried that and let the recording begin and 2 hours later all went for naught!! THE rest of their directions were completely wrong!! There was NO option to SAVE the project-- ONLY to IMPORT!! the project and that did no help!!! SO I then clicked on the top tab that said to EXPORT and I saved the file to my desktop BUT then when I went to move it to the DVD -the message said --NOT enough space to make this recording??? NOWHERE did I see the "TRIM" option as the tech support guy said?? Can someone PLEASE help me figure out HOW to get the FULL VIDEO onto a DVD that REQUIRES MORE than 2 hours of recording space.. and please make it a STEP BY STEP type of guide -- because I have e-mailed ROXIO many many times and I am on a wild goose chase .I appreciate any help . This should be a fun project and it is ending up being quite frustrating. :( :( :(

I've exceeded 5 hours before:

But why would you really want to do that

You are setting yourself up to fail no matter what software you use!!! One little 'bump' near the end and you lose EVERYTHING!

NO DVD can hold 6 hours with any setting you have available, so you would be better served by recording it in 1 hour chunks and then do with it what ever you can stand to watch

If they are not a contigous 6 hour tape or DVD then you have No Need to record that way!

Record Segments and put the clips together in the Record-Edit-Save - Import.

Do you actually understand how degraded these will be after you have ignored everything everyone has been trying to tell you???

I realize that some videotaping of concerts is little better than junk video to begin with but it will really look much worse than what is on your Tapes if your not careful :o

I threw in 3, 2 hour clips and it simply will not burn them using 4.7GB discs!!!

If I bump it to 8.5 discs, it will but needs 3...

It is your PC and you are free to do what you want! But I really want you to consider what I am saying. I have been doing this from the time BEFORE there were DVD's!

Do you have some 4.7 GB RW discs?

Actually, I just found this out, there limit for one 4.7 GB DVD is somewhere between 1:52 & 1:53!

Slap a clip or series of clips that total up to 1:52 (No Menu) and burn it onto a RW. See what you think?

1) If you try to get that much video on a single layer DVD, it will probably be unwatchable. A rule of thumb is one hour of video for the best quality.

2) Gaps in the DVD will (or may) cuse the porogram to think that the rest of the VHS tape is empty and will stop.

Now, do you have Easy VHS to DVD 3 Plus. It is only about a month or two old. If you bough iot before then, it could be anyhting. Read this (link) and respond with what you have.

Reopen the program and go to Record, Import, Edit. On the lower right you should see a button to import video. Use that to get your captured video back into the program.

When it loads, you will see the trimmer information and the video enhancements including adding a title.

It is frustrating when you don't understand it

A 4.7 GB DVD holds about One Hour at HQ!!! (8.5 GB will hold about 2)

You are starting with lower quality to begin with and it will not suffer from trying to degrade it more to fit on a disc...

Keep those "rules" in mind as you proceed.

Use the Record-Edit-Save but understand that you don't really "save" it but rather Export it. You probably would like to Export it to a DVD Movie.

With EVD3 it is even easier as it is the first to offer a Split Disc option :o

When you have a long movie and click on Export to DVD you get this box so you pick Span:

post-39730-011197100 1332682026.jpg

That will take you to the Trim window and the gray area is where you want to Split your project. It offers a small range so You can pick the best point within the range then click on the icon to continue:

Now you are ready to burn!

I suggest you try it out first with a couple of DVD RW discs, as they can be erased and reused ;) (don't use them for anything you value as they fade over time and become unusable)

as I read the posts Roxio cannot capture a 6hr ep recorded vhs tape?

is it possible to do clips of 2hr and put them on a dvd?

Of course, but we would still recommend that you capture to your computer, edit and then burn. If you use a double (dual) layer disc, you could get 2 hours on it.

You could capture the full 6 hours but if you have a hiccup, you could lose a lot of it.
