Select Video Device Failed

Dick_Button

Question

Hi; I bought my Roxio Gamecap back in august 2011, when Machinima and Roxio were doing that $69.99 deal. But my PC couldn't render properly because It was a piece of junk. So I waited until I saved up the cash and bought a new Desktop and voila it works and I can record gameplay and I even managed to record some footage. But about 2 weeks ago it just stopped working, nothing has changed except a windows update or 2, I checked the cords, changed USB ports even trading out cables. But whenever I start the program and hit "CAPTURE" it sends my Windows 7 Desktop to Basic mode instead of Windows Aero, and gives me the error of "Select Video Device Failed" now; I saw only one post about this error on this forum, and it was never addressed. So, here is a screenshot of Speccy and ill check back later to see if there is any update so we can get this resolved so no one else has to go through it.

With the Roxio Game Capture USB Device plugged into a USB 2.0 port, and I mean try them all, one by one.

Does these two drivers show in Device Manager?

Ok well they both show up for me, the the RGC works with virtualdub but it won't work with the RGC program. And I can't stand virtualdub so I'd prefer to fix RGC

Could you explain that better so we have a idea what you mean by "it won't work"?

I have everything hooked up to my console and laptop, but when I open Roxio Game Capture and click on capture I get the message "The select video device failed" and I don't get a signal, but when I open the program virtualdub I can see, and capture my console using the RGC device. And I know my laptop is good enough because I was just using it a couple weeks ago and it was working just fine.

I'm not missing anything for it to be working properly. its just a terrible program with too many bugs.

The program is just fine after all you even stated that it was working fine a few weeks ago. So something changed in your system that makes the program fail. Problems with your system does not make RGC a "terrible program with too many bugs"

It is in fact a terrible program with too many bugs, if a large majority of people report multiple problems in one aspect or another of the same situation, then you have to consider it might actually be the program and/or device and not the user. I myself can not figure out this software and I'm also uncertain if it is the Roxio its self or the the Program it comes with. Repeatedly I have changed the wires in and out trying every method I've seen or read on the forums and on youtube. Non has yet to even get me started with this program to even rate its overall quality. I am deeply disappointed on how buggy it actually is and how frustration it can be to try and fix these bugs.
