Why Is My Pc So Bad For This? Please Answer

I always have to go and use my grandads pc because his is far better a newer and I get no problems with his BUT mine is terrible for some reason, I get distorted sound and have to record in avi which eats memory and is bad quality, but with my grandads pc I record in DIVX and render well and get very good quality.

 

it takes for ever just to start the recording on my pc?
