I upgraded the software from the previous version to 3 Plus, via purchasing and downloading from roxio.com. As instructed, I am using the same hardware from the previous version. I am trying to use the new software for the first time. The video comes through clearly, but the audio first started as a high pitch constant static, now the static comes and goes with complete silence inbetween. The connections are all correct. I unplugged the cables, one at a time, from the VHS player.... static continued... So, it isnt coming from the VHS player. I then unplugged the other end of the cables from the three-headed splitter that plugs into small black rectangular plug that plugs into the USB..... sound continued. I then unplugged, the three-headed splitter... sound still continued. I then unplugged the small black rectangular USB plug. the sound stopped. This computer is a Dell M1330 Laptop. It is only a year or two old. I am sure it has USB 2.0's. I can't figure out why there is static. I am assuming, based on my process-of-emliniation, that the static is from the rectangular USB plug. Am I correct? What, if anything can I do to fix this problem? So I need new hardware?
The orginal software from the previous version is on my other laptop which I dont have access to until Monday so I dont know if the problem is the same on that system yet as I know if worked for me the last time I used it, which was about August of last year (2011), 7-8 months ago.
