Conflict Roxio 2011 And Totalmedia Extreme 2 "unknown Capture Error"

RainmanP

Question

I have been using Roxio media creator products for more years than I can remember, currently Roxio 2011 Pro. I have had kind of a love/hate relationship with the last few generations. The product is extremely powerful, but I find it unnecesarily complicated to use. I guess that's just my problem. Anyway, to the current issue. I recently purchased another brand HD DVR video capture device (sorry, the reviews for the Roxio hardware devices just did not impress). The device came with, and ONLY works with TotalMedia Extreme 2, an application apparently tweaked specifically for the device. It works great, BUT as long as the TME2 is installed I cannot use the video capture feature in Roxio 2011. Everything else works fine, but as soon as I go into Capture, I immediately receive "Unknown Capture Error" which repeats every time I click OK or the red X. The only way to stop it is Task Manager>End Task. When I go into capture, I do see the Source change automatically to the name of my other brand device, but that's when the error message starts. I cannot access anything to change the source. As long as I am capturing from my HD DVR device I am fine using TME2, but it does not seem to see other capture devices. So right now, for instance, I can use neither Roxio, nor TME2 to capture from my webcam (USB) or my mini-DV camcorder (firewire) because I can't get into Roxio Capture and TME2 does not "see" the devices. If I uninstall TME2 Roxio works fine. As far as I can tell I have the latest drivers for everything and the lates program updates.

Any thoughts/suggestions? I have searched everywhere I can think of, and I have not seen anyone report this same issue.

I would also post in the Total Media Extreme 2 forums, and let them know that the TME2 software wrecks your Roxio program.

... what do you have capture set to in Windows and in Roxio when you try to capture??? <_<

I have an AverMedia HD Capture Card which DOES NOT work with Roxio. But I have to make sure everything is set up correctly for Roxio Capture to work!

Right Click your Speaker and select Recording Devices:

This is where you can check what is used for Audio.

Then with Roxio Capture make sure you have the Correct Device selected as well as the Options (S-video or Composite) selected:

Double Check those settings! If all that is proper, then you will have to try what GPB suggested ;)
