Following this knowledge base article, Preparing your computer for installing Roxio products, http://kb.roxio.com/search.aspx?URL=/content/000080GN

Place the installation disc in a drive, when the installer offers a repair choose it and reboot the PC.

Did that fix it?

lesloyd: Sorry, I meant to get back to this and forgot about it

Program not Responding does not necessarly mean that it is not working...

When you Stop, the program has to Render the Capture... Depending on your settings it can take as long as the capture did or even longer!

Try a 1 minute capture and see what it does?

If that fails then do what I am suggesting for jh goto...

jh goto: I think what you want to do is try a repair but make sure you do it this way...

Plug in the Capture device and Disable it in the Device Manager (Sound and Video Game Controllers)

Unplug the device and put it aside till later.

Turn off your Anti Virus, Firewalls, Registry Cleaners, etc. and insert your Roxio Disc - run Install

Be sure you accept the offer to Check for Updates (this is for Roxio, not Windows)

When you reach the screen where
Repair
is offered, choose that!

Then turn your AV & Firewall back on and reboot.

Hoping that will get you both running ;)

Jim, i have tried your steps regarding the repair option but I did not get offer to check for updates.

after restart I still received the window at startup:

Roxio Easy VHS to DVD has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows

will close the program and notify you if a solution is available

like I said the V2D was working(somewaht unstable) for three days but was able to copy many tapes to disk

do you have any other suggestions?

is this product really this problematic?

I would think that all you should have to do is uninstall and re install and reboot,

but not this one. I have restarted my system 20 times in the last 2 days trying to resolve.

Thanks again
