Usb Capture Device

Ethan93

Question

Hi, I'm new here. Last week I ordered the Roxio Easy VHS to DVD packages (version 2 plus a download of version 3). I'm having a serious problem. I've tried plugging the USB capture device into all of my computers and am having the same problem. It keeps telling me that the device has malfunctioned and cannot install. When I try to download the latest driver, it begins installation and then gives me a message telling me that the driver isn't needed for my computer, and then the installation freezes up and goes no further.

Has anyone else had these problems and figured out how to solve them? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is version 2, link or a actual version number, see #17 in my signature?

You bought Roxio Easy VHS to DVD 3 Plus - ESD (Upgrade)?

What did you install?

Did you then run the upgrade?

Why would you plugin the USB Capture Device in all your computers? Windows usually installs generic drivers when you do that and it doesn't work with the Roxio software.

What instructions came with version 2 and how to install it?

Version 2 was the previous version of the program before version 3 (the newest one). It doesn't say version 2 on the package, but that was how it was advertised on Roxio's website when I bought it last week. I was going to only buy the latest one but they had an ad saying that if I helped them clear out their stock of the previous release by buying it instead then I could get it for half price, and then they'd give me a download of the latest edition (3) for free, so that's what I opted for. I only installed the newest one, though, and the version 2 disc has never been out of its sleeve.

I plugged the USB Capture Device into my desktop computer because that was the one I was planning on using the software with. The computer rejected it every time saying that the device was malfunctioning. That was why I tried plugging it into my laptop, simply to see if it would accept the USB device. That seemed like the normal thing anybody would try to do. But it gave me the exact same message, saying that the USB device was malfunctioning.

I followed the instructions to the letter. I think the software probably works fine, but I have no way of knowing for sure because the USB capture device isn't working to send the signal from my VCR to my computer.

I know nothing about what you call version 2 and how you bought it from the Roxio website.

Why, because as far as I know Roxio Easy VHS to DVD 3 has been the only version available since February.

Does your USB Device look like #1 or #2?

It's number 1, the one on the left. And as soon as I plug it into either of my computers it immediately sends up a notice that says "USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message."

One of my friends made a suggestion to me over the phone that might work (I haven't tried it yet but am about to try). He said that the drivers for the USB device might be included in the disc of the earlier software (not the Roxio Easy VHS to DVD 3) that it was actually packaged with. I was trying to just use the device with the newer software without trying the older first. Perhaps once I install the earlier edition, it will have the driver to make the device work, and then I can upgrade to the newer software. It might not work, but it's worth a try. The newer software didn't come with a device of its own because it was a download and a backup disc.

Open device manager and expand the sound video and game controllers.

Now plugin and unplug the Roxio USB device and see what drivers show, keep doing it until your confident what drivers show up when it's plugged in.

Now right click the entries you see with the device plugged in, and click uninstall. Do each one you have identified you might have one show under unidentified devices.

Now unplug the USB device and leave it unplugged until I tell you to plug it in.

Uninstall your upgrade version from control panel, program and features and reboot the PC.

Now install your software you call version 2 and reboot the PC.

When your booted up open device manager and plugin the USB device and tell me what shows under sound video and game controllers?

Thanks for the suggestions. I went to the device manager and checked where you said to check, and nothing ever changed in the area you mentioned between when the USB device was connected or disconnected. However, whenever it was plugged in there was an additional item listed in the Universal Serial Bus section of the device manager. It said Unknown Item. I uninstalled it, and then uninstalled the Roxio Easy VHS to DVD 3 software. After that, I installed the older version of the software. As it was installing, I noticed that it said it was installing the drivers for the USB capture device, so things looked pretty promising to me. When the program finished installing and I plugged the USB capture device back in, it said it was installing for about 10 seconds before giving me an error message saying that it was unable to install the device. I then checked and it was having the same errors as before, saying in the control panel that there was an unknown device plugged in to a USB port. After clicking on one thing it gave me an error code 43 saying that the computer (or Windows) had blocked the usage of the device and prevented its installation because it was an unknown device, or something like that.

After installing the older software did you reboot the PC before plugging in the USB Device?

Yes. Sorry, I forgot to mention that. I just uninstalled and reinstalled the software again, and rebooted, but the USB device still doesn't work. It keeps giving me an error Code 43. I even went into the CD directly to where you can repair or reinstall the driver for the USB capture device and tried repairing it several times, all to know avail. I'm just going to ask Roxio to replace the USB capture device because it is clearly defective. Thanks for your help.

I get the error message when I click on properties for Unknown Device. It says, "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)". I just uninstalled the program and the device again, rebooted windows, reinstalled the program, rebooted windows, and then plugged the device in again. Same problem. So I've asked Roxio for a replacement.
