Problem With Burning Once All Compression Complete

Newbie with VHStoDVD

Question

I've been converting my old VHS to DVD for a year or so now, and this week I've been getting a new error message. I've captured the video, it states the quality will be only "good" due to the size for the DVD, then compresses, but when it's finally time to burn I keep getting the message that there is a problem burning to the DVD. With no explanation. I've used these DVDs before with no problem. I recaptured the video and cut off about 10 minutes of it, hoping the smaller file size might help, but I still get the same error message. I'm using a Jetbook on Windows XP Pro, if that helps. Also, my software is Version 201B23A. I tried different DVD discs, and now one seems to be damaged due to this error message, although the others still seem okay.

Pleasew tell us about the jetbook. Specs?

Always capture to your computer first so that you don't run into this problem again.

Do you do normal maintenance on your computer reasonably frequently. How much free and defragged space do you have on your system drive? (Don't defrag a solid state drive). Here are some tools to use.

I do capture to my computer first, always. That's why this problem seems so strange. Although I'm not great at doing maintenance, it so happens I did recently, maybe a week ago? I have 34% free space at the moment. I'm not totally positive what you mean by specs for my Jetbook, but it has Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, T9300 @ 2.50 GHz, 772 MHz, 2.00 GB of RAM. Is that what you mean?

Hope you can help me figure out what's wrong. Thanks for responding so quickly!

34 % of free space based on what 100 G or 1TB?

Who make the jetbook? What model number do you have.

Did you try to use CCleaner to get rid of the temp and tmp files? Do NOT use the rgistry cleaner part of it.

Down load and run the "Speccy" program, do a screen shot and post only the summary page.

Remember that you can get about one hour og good video on a DVD.

Remember also that store brands and Memorex are not very good media and often cause issues like this. Gte some Verbatim; they are available locally.

My hard drive is 298 GB, and I'm in the process of deleting some space hoggers, so now I'm up to 38% free space. My CCleaner was old, so I'm downloading and updating it as I type. The file would be 1 hour 35 minutes, and I know that's not great video, but it's just for my church's archives, so it doesn't have to be wonderful. The DVDs are Maxell, is that okay? The first two videos I did with them went just fine, and they were over an hour too. I have yet to download the "Speccy" program.... But wanted at least to post this info. Oh, I got my Jetbook at my local computer store. It's made by Jetta International. Looking on the bottom of my laptop I'd say the model is ML3054. Will report more soon.

It could be the discs... Maxell's are in the Hit or Miss group

Verbatim (Singapore only) and Tayiyo Yuden (JVC) are 2 brands known for quality!

I am betting it is a disc/burner problem, since what you have supplied about your PC & HDD seem OK...

I have hit one recently with EVD3 and a project burn limit of under 1:52. Have not had time to qualify that error or see if it exists in the 201B version and why I never noticed it for 2 years

For now, try what Steve has suggested and we will keep our fingers crossed ;)

I have now run CCleaner and have 43% of 298 GB free space. I also ran Speccy and am attaching the screen shot. However, this morning when I found I had Verbatim discs, I put one in and now the software does not even detect that I've inserted a DVD disc. Windows does, but not Easy VHS to DVD. So then I decided to see if any of my other software would burn the captured video to the disc, and one did! I don't like the menu near as well, but that tells me it's not the drive. Any more ideas? Even though I now have my DVD, I'd still like to have this software working again.post-94110-015924500 1335629799.jpg

Okay, although I've never burned straight to the DVD,

I wanted you to do this to see if Roxio recognized your drive with a DVD in it.

You posted it didn't!

I don't recommend 'Record DVD' at all.

Does it show here too?

Yes, it does now. It wasn't before, but it is now, so no need to post the screen shot. But the problem I was having originally was that it would go to all the work of compressing the file, and then when it came to burn it, it gave me an error message more than once saying "There was an error in burning to disc." or something on that order. I could try it again, I suppose, now that I've used CCleaner and defragged my drive, I suppose. Is that what you suggest?

I'll suggest two things.

Get yourself a disc or 2 of DVD RW media... It is eraseable and perfect for testing! (NEVER use with anything you value, it fails over time!)

Without a screen cap of the error, nothing has changed! You descriptions point to a burning problem with the disc or the Burner. :glare: In these cases, it can fail-work-fail for some time :(

Actually, my Verbatim discs are DVD RW media... but I fear you're right, as now I managed to do the same captured video that had been giving me so much problem. It burned just fine this time. My laptop is nearing 4 years of age, so it could be it's just running its useful life. I use it for a living, so it gets very regular use! However, the CD/DVD-Rom drive is probably the thing that gets used the least... oh well. I'd been thinking it was time to consider a new PC. Guess it's time to do some research to be prepared.

Thanks for everyone's feedback and assistance!
