Cant Burn Dvd's In Creator 12Pro

Ironhead

Question

Hi.

I have put together a video in videowave on my PC. It is made up of movie clips from our holidays and still photos all taken on my camera.

I have done this many times in the past. The last previous occasion was about 4 weeks ago and no problems.

Now however, whenever I try to burn this latest project, through Creator 12Pro & MyVideo I get an error message (Extended error 0x80041024.

I have found that this problem only occurs with DVD's....I can burn an image onto a CD with no problem, but I cannot burn that same image onto a DVD.

I have tried exporting the project (via a pen drive) and burning the project onto DVD on my laptop (which does not have Creator on it and this works fine

(Using DivX software) and no problem it burns fine.

As I am using the same blank Verbatim DVD-R's on both lap top and PC (and have been using them for more than 12 months), I am fairly confident the blank DVD's are not the problem.

The DVD writer is an Optiarc AD-5170S ATA Device, which I feel might not be the problem as I can play DVD's on it (including this project, that I burnt on my laptop) and I can burn CD's with it. I have checked this morning and the software is up to date.

I just have a feeling I need to reinstall Creator 12Pro and try that.

I would really appreciate any suggestions you may have.

Could you also let me have details on how to do a 'clean' re-install.

Fingers Crossed!!!

Looks like I put this in the wrong place!

Good morning/afternoon.

Well, after a restless night I got up real earlyand did a clean reinstall of Roxio Creator 2012Pro.

It didn't make the slightest difference! :(

So, off to the 'pooter shop, bought me a nice LG Super Multi DVD Rewriter x22........Fantastic, problems all solved! B)

So, thanks very much guys, you are stars.

I really appreciate all your help, patience & understanding.

Have a great day.

Good morning & thanks Guys.

I put a new Verbatim disc in;

Then progressed as you said Cdanteek, absolutely nothing happened, the thing just sat there!

So, I'm off to PC World (I'm in England) tomorrow morning for a new burner.

I really appreciate all your help Sknis, Jim and Cdanteek. I'll let you know how I get on with a new burner.

Best, John.

Since you are already using Verbatim, I think a $25 new Burner is order ;)

I've had more than one batch of bad Verbatim Media..

Medium error [03/73/03]

There are many cases where there is a problem with the disc, or information cannot be retrieved from the disc properly. The PC may be unstable or try a new disc.

I doubt it's your burner.

As a test use Vista's burn engine to make a test burn to a blank DVD. Place a blank DVD in the drive open a folder containing files and open My Computer. Drag the files to the DVD Drive and choose mastered, click next.

What brand name disc are you using?

A DVD cleaning disc was designed for a settop player and never I repeat never should be used in a DVD Burner!

As a last resort before assigning it as a small door stop ! It is probably shot anyway.

Thank you very much for all your help and patience Sknis, it's much appreciated.

I'll try the new disks but it looks like a new burner.......

If you have any suggestions for that it would be appreciated, cost will be a factor. :ninja:

You got this "Power calibration area error - Medium error "[03/73/03]."

You are using poor quality media or your burner is about to crap out.

1) Get some good quality new Verbatim discs.

2) If that doesn't work, you burner is about shot. You might try a DVD cleaning disc but I would not hold out much hope.

OK we are wasting a lot of space here on the finer points of semantics when it is pretty clear...

Your PC will not burn to a DVD.

Your Laptop will.

Semantics 101: ;)

An MP4 file is a Movie file ~ it is not an image file!

A JEPG file is a Picture file ~ it is not an image file!

The ones cd listed in his post are Image Files

Sooo here is where I would like to go...

Creator 2012 - Data/Copy tab - Burn Data Disc-Advanced:

(if you have a DVD-RW disc, we will go all the way through and burn - IF NOT we will stop before ruining a DVD-R ;) )

Add just a single file or 2 to a Data Disc Project:

Tell it you have a DVD (and put one in the tray):

Click the Burn Icon:

With a blank disc in the drive, what does it say by the Arrow?

post-39730-034420100 1336658122.jpg

Note - this will not make a playable DVD Movie! So there is no reason to burn unless you have a DVD RW disc which you can erase later.

All of this is just to confirm you have a working DVD Burner in your Desktop...

If nothing odd happens, we can go to step 2 which is to create a proper DVD Movie ;)

I'll keep my fingers crossed!

What a great reply....even I can understand that!

The bad news is - I progressed as per your instructions and then decided 'what the hell, I'll write this to disc".

I then got an error notice stating;-

Power calibration area error - Medium error "[03/73/03].

In blue it said "click for more information" - when I clicked, it showed a list of 22 items and all 22 had a red X through them.

I'm guessing this is not a great result.. :( ..What next?

I've tried to attach a screen shot of what I'm seeing but I cant 'attach' file!....or have I?

Thanks as always.

Best, John.

mp4 is not a image!

Okay, I will bow to your knowlege on that..................just an aside though, I did read this....

MPEG-4 Part 14 or MP4 (formally ISO/IEC 14496-14:2003) is a multimedia container format standard specified as a part of MPEG-4. It is most commonly used to store digital video and digital audio streams, especially those defined by MPEG, but can also be used to store other data such as subtitles and still images. Like most modern container formats, MPEG-4 Part 14 allows streaming over the Internet. A separate hint track is used to include streaming information in the file. The only official filename extension for MPEG-4 Part 14 files is .mp4.

Sorry if I'm wrong or misled you.

I put together the 'project' of still photo's and movie using Roxio VideoWave within Creator 2012Pro, saving it as I went along in DMSM. When it was all finished, I clicked on the DVD button at the top which opened up MyDVD and I clicked on burn.

The 'Burn Project Window' opened and it progressed through Open Project, Encode Movies,Record Menus, Complete. Putting a green tick after each of those items. There is aa amber coloured progress bar which shows complete and below that it says "Overall Progress 100%".

Then underneath it says Failed to start the image writing operation.Error while burning image."

I have also tried exporting the project and saving it and then trying to burn it. None of my previous or earlier projects will bun either.

Thanks again for your help, please stick with it.

Best, John.

The bold text above tells me nothing!

I asked "What type of image file are you burning to a CD but won't burn to a DVD?"

File image extensions?

post-97-076176700 1336564356.jpg

Now what is the file image extension that burns to CD not to DVD?

And "The image that works fine & I can burn on the laptop is the video made up from stills & video" what is the file image extension?

:o Image file that burns to CD but will not burn to DVD is .jpeg

:o File extension that works fine on laptop is .mp4

Sorry, I misunderstood...

Thank you, John.

Hi & thanks for your response.

Your quite correct, I put MyVideo, I should have put MyDvd...sorry about that.

The image I can burn om my PC to CD but not to DVD is a simple photograph of a bunch of flowers.

The image that works fine & I can burn on the laptop is the video made up from stills & video (all holiday stuff taken with my camera), downloaded onto PC and then made into a slide show / video using Creator 12Pro o the PC. When I couldn't get to burn on the PC using C12Pro/MyDvd I copied the file over to the laptop and burned it there. The software on the lap top is DivX Plus.

I have also tried converting the file to AVI on the PC....it still wont burn.

As the burner on th PC will burn a CD, I assumed that meant the burning laser was OK.

I appreciate everones help.

Best, John

I did a search for that error and found only a couple that were close. First do this maintenance.

Are you burning a DL disc? Any possibility that this is the error/cause? I'm not sure the optical devices are made by the same manufacturer.

Don't do the uninstall/reinstall juts yet . You could put the program disc in the drive and do a repair when that option shows.

upportappreciated

Hi and thanks for your response.

No, I am not trying to burn Double Layer discs and regrettably, the discs that came from Sonic (last November) would not instal properly and after many days of dealing with Support, they downloaded the software to me.....so no working discs!

Your help is appreciated along with any further suggestions you may have.

Thank you, John

There is no application in C2012 Pro called MyVideo, so clarify that please?

And to rattle your 'confidence', DVD Burners actually have 2 seperate lasers in them!

One to 'Play'...

One to 'Burn'...

So if something Plays, it is generally meaningless to a burn issue ;) (and it is normally the 'Burn' laser that fails first :( )

Do as Steve suggests, may just be some fluke!
