tsantee
Have you tried choosing Save as Disc Image and then burning that to disc using the Image File setting in the Copy window? What brand of discs are you using?
kevs
T, sorry, the email notification on this forum is defult to not get notifications. What do you mean, "Image File setting in the Copy window" I just always use Data: mac and PC. Do think it would be the DVD brand? I doubt it. I use Verbatims, never had a problem before. thanks! When does that error occur? Is it while burning the disc, while verifying the disc or while reading the burned disc? Something to test is to choose Save as Disc Image from the File menu instead of clicking the burn button. This creates a .toast disc image file. Is there any error when creating the disc image file? If not, switch to the Copy window and choose Disc Image as the format and select the .toast file that was saved. Now burn your disc. Does an error appear now? Which version of Toast 11 are you using? If it is 11.0.6 try using 11.0.4 instead (which is available from Roxio's software updates page). Roxio also will be releasing 11.1 in a few days. kevs
It happens when verifying 3x with an error, something about write sector, but just happened on test this morning with just writing. Usually I get an Error when verifying, but today, no error on the writing which would not finish today. To be honest T, I'm still on version 7. Never seen a reason to upgrade. Would this solve issue by upgrading to 11? I've burned hundreds without issue before. (I don't post in 7 because you don't seem to visit that area!) Would this solve issue by upgrading to 11? I've burned hundreds without issue before. There are just too many variables. If you're using Toast 7 it suggests your Mac is older and it may be a problem with the drive or the drive may need a firmware update to work with newer media. It could be an issue between Toast 7 and whatever OS you are using that may be newer than when Toast 7 was last updated. It could be a false verification error and the disc is fine. Try using the Compare function in the Toast Utilities menu (if that is present in Toast 7). It could be a spool of defective discs. I'd start with checking for a firmware update for the drive. I'd get a laser-cleaning disc. I'd try media from a different spool. I'd do the disc image test I suggested. I'd check if there is any problem using Disk Utility to burn the data disc. I'd try with a different disc burning drive. As you can see, there can be a lot of different reasons for this error. I'm sorry I don't have a clear solution. (I don't post in 7 because you don't seem to visit that area!) The most recent post in the Toast 7 forum is from me on July 2. I do check for posts in all Roxio Mac-app forums and it is really helpful to me when I'm not mistaken about which version of Toast someone is using. kevs
thanks T, actually is Toast 8. I'll report back. I'm on a 27" imac, and have been burning DVD with it fine since I have it. But ejecting disc, getting now is an issue. Let me test a bit.... What is the deal with email verification, really a problem on these forums, can't figure out that one. Toast is pretty stable. If you choose Save as Disc Image you separate the preparation of the disc from the actual burning of the disc so that's one way to be cautious in your approach. It is unusual for an error to occur when saving as a disc image. When there is an error it usually is because something is wrong with a file itself. Burning the disc image to disc also usually is trouble-free as long as you aren't using Toast 11.0.6. You won't encounter verification errors when burning disc images. If something goes wrong burning a disc image then it usually is the disc media or the drive at fault. There's a Toast 11.1 update coming soon and hopefully it will be even more reliable. kevs
T, I did the disc image trick and it went well. but on second disc I got this: see 2 screenshots. I used to use an external DVD burner from Lacie, but it broke, and I've been using the Mac DVD burner. The computer is just a few years old, not a lot of wear on the burner. But who knows what it is right?

But who knows what it is right? This may be related to other posts I've read where Toast won't write multiple discs. I didn't have that problem when I had three multi-disc projects to burn but others have experienced. The Medium error is an indicator that the drive doesn't work well with that particular brand of media. Buffer underrun is extremely rare which suggests something was choking the data flow to the drive. It may be neither. I don't know. What are you trying to burn? If it is not an audio CD you may be able to change the .toast extension in the Finder to .dmg and see if it will burn using Disk Utility. If that works then it makes sense to attribute the problem to Toast.
