What is the purpose burning a disk image with Toast?

You can burn multiple copies of your output off the disk image and keep the image on your hard drive for future use.

Burning multiple copies is one use.

Other uses include:

* Separating the encoding and burning steps, so that a burn error will not result in doing the same encoding a second time.

* Virtual discs (#1), for testing the disc before burning, e.g. playing a virtual DVD-Video with a software player.

* Virtual discs (#2), for convenience, e.g. for traveling with a laptop. Even if your laptop has an internal optical drive, battery power is saved by using the hard drive instead.

* Sending discs “in its original form” over a network.
