Tivo Hd Recording Output

Question

I used Toast 11 to edit a TiVo HD recording and had no problem doing this although it could use a better editing method. However, when I try to output the edited 1080 file type to an HD format I get a popup window in Toast 11 that says TiVo restricts output formats to 480. TiVo support says this is a Roxio restriction. Who's right? Anyone else try this?

I don't know who's right. I've always believed Roxio placed this restriction because TiVo required it as part of their agreement with some video producers to allow transfer of the videos in the first place.

But you can get around it. If you have the Toast Blu-ray plugin choose Save as Disc Image with Blu-ray video selected as the format in the Video window. Mount the saved disc image and drag the contained m2ts file to the Toast convert window. Toast no longer considers it a TiVo transfer and lets you convert it in its HD resolution.
