Stuck On "filling The Ram Cache" -- Will Not Burn Disk

What is going on? I burned a couple of disks and now nothing! The latest disk will not go beyond "filling the ram cache". I am running toast 11.1 on a mac. I have repaired the permissions, trashed the preferences, and restarted. Nothing! I even tried my iMac and its having the same problem. I don' know what else to do, but I am really frusturated and can't burn any disks. Any help is appreciated.

This has just now happened to me and so I uploaded the latest version. I can burn one disk, but as soon as I pop in the second disk to burn I get the Filling the RAM Cache...100% I have a job I have to get out...Does anyone have a solution??

 

 

The only thing I can suggest is re-install your original Toast 11 which worked OK in my case (just doing that myself now). I also can't save as disc image from an old .disc file (have to create a new one first). The audio CD format seems to be causing all sorts of problems...crashing or stalling at Ram Cache. I'm also getting the greyed-out folders issue in the Open dialogue...astonishing number of bugs in this upgrade not to have been picked up!

Don't know if this is what happened but sometimes when there is a long encoding session the optical drive goes to sleep and Toast can't (or doesn't) wake it up. The workaround is to choose Save as Disc Image instead of clicking the burn button. When the disc image is complete, select the resulting .toast file using the Image File setting in the Toast Copy window to burn the DVD.

Now every single attempts results in a hang at "filling RAM cache!" This sucks!

Success! I found the original dmg of Toast 11 in my Downloads folder and reinstalled it. Success! The DVD processed and burned fine. One interesting note...the processing and writing seemed to go faster with the older version.

Me to. Just upgraded to latest version of Toast 11 and like others, I can only burn one disk

and then the "filling the ram cache" popped up. See there is no apparent solution so far

with the exception of reinstalling original disk, so guess will do that.

Just a quick question anyone still on Snow Leopard or is this happening on Moutain Lion

as well. Still on SL myself but getting a new 17" Macbook Pro (ok a little out of date)

but still found new ones in box and didn't want rMBP or 15" (personal preference) so will be updating to

ML when I get the new laptop next week.

So, is rolling back from the updated 11 the only thing that's worked to fix this?

 

I'm a brand new toast user. I'm running ML on an imac and burned four or five disks and then this started happening all of a sudden.

I've come across this problem too since upgrading to 11.1 as well as other issues...think I might revert to the previous version until Roxio get all the bugs out of the new software...

I tried all sorts of configurations to get the discs to burn (moved source files from external to internal drive; rebuilt the DVD project from scratch, etc.). Nothing worked. I only had success when I reverted back to Toast 11.0.0. Toast 11.1 appears to be the culprit (and wasted A LOT of my time!)

I've burned multiple copies of DVDs with Toast 11.1 so I'm not sure what is happening to those who are experiencing this issue. In my case I first chose Save as Disc Image and then burned the multiple copies from that .toast file using the Image File setting in the Copy window. In order to burn multiple copies be sure to enter the number you want to burn in the Recorder Settings window that is accessed under the Recorder menu. If that isn't working then change the .toast extension to .dmg in the Finder and burn the discs with Disk Utility.

Same problem here, since the update to 11.1. I seem to be able to avoid the issue by setting the track gaps to 2 seconds and then returning them to 0. But we shouldn't have to do that. We should all be able to burn CDs from a track listing. Please fix this?

 

I too have repaired permissions, checked the integrity of the disc. The problem does not occur in 11.0.4.

 

I hope this is fixed soon. And for others having this issue - you are not alone.

I had this issue when I was attempting to create a DVD using video files that were on an external usb hard drive. When I moved the files to my Mac's internal drive, the problem went away.

 

UPDATE: I had success burning a disc image, but on subsequent tries, the hang at "filling ram cache" returned. :-(

If you have any Antivirus installed, try excluding the folders where Toast places the temp files. I was able to 'simulate' burns successfully after doing this. ex: I opened Sophos prefs, and added users/name/documents/roxio converted items to the no scan list. I also turned off 'Prevent Buffer Under run' but I'm not sure if that was part of the problem or not. The 'simulated' burns on 11.1 are now fast, and continuous.

I reinstalled Toast 11 and I was able to span through 3 disks. But now, I cannot. Last night it got stuck on Filling the RAM cache 11%. I'm wondering if there is a way to increase RAM cache size. Is this a Mac issue?

I see this on 10.8.2 as well. ... a long wait for a video conversion from .avi for making plain video dvd. It got to 100% converted, then I'm waiting for the Filling the RAM cache. stuck there all night. This morning it's still 100% of one cpu thread. Hitting cancel has and clicking on the red close window button have no effect. It did once want me to confirm that I want to stop. The sense of the cancel- yes/no confirmation dialog is backwards... If you want to cancel you don't hit yes, it's labeled stop, as opposed to Yes, I really want to cancel. I'm on a super fast cpu desktop. The avi file was on another computer connected via 1000base-T, temp is local.

Going to the system activity monitor and sending Quit has no effect. Hitting Force quit gets rid of the 100% filling window, and brings back the original Toast window with the DVD view, but with no video data shown.
