Toast Downsizing Video And Resolution

I have an MPEG-2 file that is 5.21 GB and looks great when played on my Mac with VLC. When I try to burn it to a dual-layer disc, Toast downsizes the file to 2.64 GB and the resolution is no longer as crisp or sharp.

 

Any idea why this is happening or suggestions? Thanks!

To begin with you the source is high-def 1920 x 1080 video and the video DVD is standard-def 720 x 480 (with an anamorphic 16:9 aspect ratio). So there is lesser quality. However, the DVD should still look pretty decent when viewed on an HDTV (but not so good on a computer display). If you have a Blu-ray player you may want to get the Toast Blu-ray plugin and make HD video discs instead. Or you can get a device that can play the HD MPEG 2 video from your Mac on your TV. My Sony Blu-ray player can do that as can my WD TV Live.
