Add Random Photo Slideshow

JRRKAR

Question

I want to make a slideshow with about 2000 photos in Creator 11. This is for a banquet that they want to run for 2 hours. I can add the photos, but they are in numberical order. Is there anyway I can select all the photos and have them randomly be added to the slideshow without having to pick each one of them?

By Creator 11 I assume you mean Roxio Creator 2011 since there is no such program as Creator 11.

How are you going to show the slideshow? You have supplied no information at all.

Are they going to be shown on a computer screen or where?

Yes I am using Roxio Creator 2011. As for the slideshow I will be creating a DVD that will then be used on a laptop and projector at the banquet. Right now I have a list of photos that are in numerical order by the picture number. If I insert that list when I create the slideshow it keeps that same order. I am just trying to determine if there is a way to have an entire list of photos picked at a random order when I create the slideshow. Thanks.

Why not simply put the photos on the laptop and use Windows Media Player to show the images in random order?

You cannot create a slideshow on a DVD with 2000 pictures.

I am doing this for a horse club where I am the photographer for, but will not be at the banquet. They asked if I could put a slideshow together with music to run before and during dinner. I really don't want to give them free access to all the copyrighted photos. So I figured I can create the slideshow and give them a simple file to run.

There is a time issue. You can put 60 minutes of best quality video (slide show) on a DVD. Assume that you have 2000 images; that would be about 1.8 seconds each. Even with a DL disc, that would only be about 3 seconds each. That is too fast for people to appreciate both the horse and your photography.

I'm assuming that you don't want to get involved with blu-ray.

You could give them a video file on a thumbdrive that will be longer but... take it from experience, not all computers/programs/projectors are compatible. I did a similar thing for a wedding and the combination I used would not show the images. (Thank goodness someone else had a different brand of projector. I was running it from a laptop. Make sure you try it out first.

Why do you want them to be random? What I did was to use "Create Slide Show" and then use a 2 by 2 transition (with music). That worked great since one image built on the previous one. The minimum time was 5 second. You could try a "Photostack" at about 2 seconds each. You can get to the slide show assistant via the main video page (if you don't have PhotoShow or through Create DVD . - Add slide show.

Let us know if one of these works for you.

Since you do not want the photos to be available to them directly (although the inages can easily be extracted from any slideshow) then what you want is not really possible. A slideshow with music will be in the form of a movie which means that the photos will be in the sequence you decide and will not appear randomly when the show is run. Also there really is no way you can create a slideshow with 2000 pictures on a DVD.

I ended up with 825 photos at a 7 second delay. This appeared to be a reasonable amount of time for people to see it and get someone else's attention to look at the screen if they were not paying attention. This will be playing through the drinks and dinner section of a banquet.

sknis - I wanted them to be in random order since there were 52 classes per event, and I didn't want people to see 20 pictures of the same thing in a row. I figured it was best if there were just random order pictures through the entire production. I know I get really bored working on the same type of pictures a bunch in a row. With the random order and music it really came out good.

So I found a rename batch file program that I was able to select the entire list, hit random and it changed the order. Then I put a prefix number in front of the name (i.e. 1_xx, 2_xx) so I could keep them in this order and copy them into the slideshow. I did use the sport transition through the entire production. The renumber program had a description for the "random" button exactly what I was looking for.

So what kind of file did you create? They can of course still easily extract images from that file. There is almost no way to prevent that.

Remember that, unless you put the actual images on the disc, any captures from that DVD will be in 720 by 480 resolution. They could print a pretty good 2 inch by 1 inch photo but not much larger. Of course, they would have to have the software to extract the image.

Yes. You can use the shortcuts"Ctrl+A" to select all photos. Thank you.

Amily, be careful what you post. Recommendations of other pay for software where the Roxio product will do what is desired is considered spam and you can be banned. You are close to it now.
