When your record time gets to zero, you'll have to buy another hard drive. (Oh, and you won't be able to do much else with your PC either.) The record time left is telling you how much space is left on your hard drive. Until you delete some of your files (maybe write them to DVD first?) your record time will continue to dwindle. If you have a second drive, you can tell it to use that drive to hold your files, again, until you run out of space. Capturing video isn't "free," it takes up space in your system.

Hope that helps!

Why don't we start with, how much space do you have left on your current hard drive? What do you plan to do with the video you're capturing? Are you planning to keep it all on your HD or will you be putting it onto DVD eventually (at which time, you can recover some HD space)? How much video do you plan to capture?

You can get 500GB drives for as low as $50... Newegg has a 1TB drive on sale for $90. You can get bigger or smaller drives than those. So, the actual answer to your question is, "It depends."

Other things to consider, are you capturing in Standard Definition or High Definition? (That determines how much space you'll need. Hi Def takes up significantly more space than Standard Def.) What format are you capturing in, MPG? .AVI? DIVX? And how much compression are you willing to use? All these things affect how much space you might eventually want/need.

Oh, and what type of video are you capturing?
