Capture Web Video

waltbros

Question

I am trying to copy and convert Web Video and can't seem to do it. Here is what I do:

I click on "Copy and Convert Video". The copy and convert window opens. I click on "Convert Video". Where it says "Add Source" I select Web Video and the Web Video windows opens and tells me to Launch your web browser to start viewing and downloading web video. With a video playing in my web browser I never get a video in that window to to select to convert. Nothing ever shows up there.

I'm using Windows 7 64bit with IE9 as my browser. I have checked the Temporary Internet file location and the location is the same in internet tools and in Roxio's Video Copy and Convert Options.

In the past using Roxio Creator 2012 I was able to capture and convert web video with no problems using the steps described above.

Any help would be appreciated.

Walt

Below is a link to a video I was able to capture using Roxio Creator 2012 but I cannot capture it with Roxio Creator NXT.

I am able to capture your test video if I do the "work around" Roxio has supplied, that is to pause the video, resize it and start it again. That to me doesn't sound like a way GOOD software should work. But, I'm not interested in YouTube videos, there are pleanty of third party freeware programs available for downloading YouTube videos.

Well I also tried that one using Creator 2011 & Creator 2012, Full Size and reduced but nothing could get it to capture...

I can recite the process in my sleep though

As you noted, there are other programs out there that can do capture and are not fussy regarding the source...

But generally these are not encumbered with treaties, laws or agreements making them questionable

Of course if you give someone a car or gun or tool, it does not automatically mean they will embark on a life of crime

The video that waltbros linked in Post #3 IS NOT a YouTube video

There is just something quirky about Roxio's Web Capture and you would probably need to hold a PHD in 'Interweb' as well as a Law degree and then maybe after wadding through a couple thousand yards of code, you might know :D:lol:

Update: Just tried that link with Creator 2010 and it didn't work either  So that makes 4 version that cannot get that one...

Perhaps the OP might want to try the free Jing from Tech Smith. It has time and format restrictions but it might work.

I just tried it and was able to seemingly capture about 3 minutes before I stopped. Nothing I have will play that swf (flash) file; not even VLC.

Edit again. I was able to capture and play the video file with Jing. Once I captured it, I went to History and was able to play it. You must have a Flash Player enabled ( I didn't realize that I did not).

The capture is limited to 5 minutes and that video is longer than that so plan accordingly. I have my computer room all torn up so I don't know if the bad audio I got was typical or just me.

I have no problem downloading that "Pizza recipe" video through my Download Manager. It is a flv file and VLC has no problem playing it.

It is only Roxio that won't download it.
