Backup To Tape Drives?

jkdyoyo

Question

:) I just recently purchased Easy Media Creator 8 and I THOUGHT there was the ability to use the backup funtionality for tape drives. Unfortunately, the backup funtionality only works with my DVD-R and CD-RW. The

I have used Easy CD Creator 6 in the past and thought the recent upgrade would prove beneficial with this "newer" functionality.

Is there a likelihood that a software patch/revision will allow for backups to be written to tape?

Are you using Backup MYPC or Roxio Backup? BUMP does have the ability to do tape. Currently don't have a tape drive, but have used them in the past and all the help files still mention the use of tape, including retensioning etc.

If enough people ask for it, perhaps. If you have a WindowsXP installation disc, there is a tape backup program on it.

Insert disc

Right click and select EXPLORE

double click the VALUEADD folder

then the MFST folder

there should be a folder there called NTBACKUP

in that folder is a file ntbackup.msi

Double click to install.

It is the original WinNT backup written by Veritas and still works with WinXP. As I recall, it works with just about any QIC tape drive. It does NOT backup to CD or DVD.

If you don't have the WinXP install disc, try searching Microsoft's website. They may have it for download.

I'm currently runnin Windows XP and I have run WinXP's backup utility for the ASR aspect. However, in my opinion, XP's backup tool provides basic backup functionality. I thought I could kill two birds with one stone in purchasing this software package. The Media Creator 8 Packaging fooled me into purchasing this upgrade, I should have realized that this software package was designed for not technical consumers. :)

I can say with certainty that there will be no patch or update to add tape backup functionality, sorry!
