Toast 11 Crashing

deyvideo

Question

Since upgrading to Toast 11, I can use it once or twice, and then it will crash every time. If I restart, it will work again once or twice, then the same thing all over.

Any ideas what would case this?

I am running OSX 10.8.2 on a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 8 GB ram

I haven't had Toast 11.1 crash on either of my Macs so I don't know what might be the cause. If you haven't done this, trash the Toast plist and prefs files in you User>Library>Preferences folder and relaunch Toast. You access that library by holding down the Option key while selecting the Go menu in the Finder.

Does it matter which of Toast's windows you're using? Is it happening with Video, Audio, Convert, Data, Copy or all of them?

It will do it no matter which window I am using. It works fine for a little while after a restart, then suddenly the beach ball, and all I can do is force quit. If I try to relaunch it will crash before even getting to the main window. I have tried trashing prefs, as well as every possible disc utility, permissions repair, cache cleaning, etc.

There are a couple things that have caused earlier versions of Toast to crash so you might check these. One is the connection of a Firewire audio device. The other is presence of certain third-party VST plugins in the Library>QuickTime>Plugins>VST folder.

As a test you might try starting your Mac in Safe Mode to see if Toast still crashes. If it doesn't then Toast is having a conflict with some third-party item in a library.

You also might try running the extended RAM test using Rember (find it at Macupdate.com).

Ever since I went to Toast 11 there have been problems. Now I have a new one (problem that is). Since the latest update that was a total ball-ache to get installed, Toast 11 will not launch, and just hangs. I have to Force Quit. Toast 10 never gave me any real problems, and I've now gone back to using 10. I will do the usual trashing of prefs etc - I think I already did this actually - and report back. Will try the Safe Mode thing as well - forgot about that one - thanks.

I'm having similar problems.

I get the assistant but as soon as I select an option to the main window, toast crashes.

I've tried trashing the preferences, reinstalling and run disk utility to repair and disk preferences.

Any ideas?

I think it is looking for the wrong dvd burner/driver but there's no way to change this if you can't open the program.

Here's the error message I get...

My experience with Toast crashes are they often are linked to some external Firewire audio or video device. But that crash happens before any window opens. When Toast launches it searches for any optical drives and any other device it may be designed to access. When it can't recognize one it hangs or crashes. Disconnect any external device except for hard drives and try starting up in Safe mode to see if Toast still crashes.

I am having the same crashing issue. This is on top of blurred DVD or Blu-ray burns. Support is of no help what a waste of $120. I am on a Mac and have no idea what everyone is talking about when they refer to Firewire Audio, etc. It would be great to actually talk with a customer support person at Roxio or Corel but all I get is a message to use the inline FQAs or a person that gives me the number to the that same support line. Total freak'n joke.

The problem for me trying to troubleshoot this is I haven't had Toast crash in a long time on two different Macs running two different versions of OS X. It seems to me that the crashing is specific to a few users' computers rather than being commonplace. This makes it hard to pinpoint for Roxio's technical support, too.

Is Toast crashing as soon as you select an option from the assistant window the same as the previous user's post?

Your remark about blurred DVD and Blu-ray burns is startling. I can't imagine what could cause that. I'm sorry I'm no help. If I had similar experience with Toast I could share my troubleshooting with you.
