Black Screen On Pc Setup

I've been using the Game Capture HD Pro using the following setup - my video card was connected to my monitor with a DVI cable, and to the Game Capture with an HDMI one. This worked well apart from the fact that I experienced tearing in my games. I tried to change the setup by having the PC connect to the Game Capture with an HDMI cable, and the Game Capture to my monitor with an HDMI to DVI cable. However, when I do it like that I get a black screen (not even a "No Signal" sign). Does anyone know what's wrong?

The Game capture needs the USB connection from the PC. It provides the power for the card....no usb,no picture.

Of course it's connected to the PC. I got around the black screen problem (updated my video card drivers), but the tearing problem still persists, so maybe anyone know how to get rid of that?

Maybe... If we had any idea what "tearing" means

 

Edit: did some searching and wiki indicates it is going to take some experimenting by you to reduce it
