Jim_Hardin
Well a lot of the problem was your reluctance to try anything we suggested, which would have helped pin it down
AMENINCE777
It definitely took a lot longer than I expected, I mean 2 months? That's entirely too long, but it's better than not getting it replaced at all.
Jim_Hardin
Thanks for following up! Sorry it could not get resolved sooner
AMENINCE777
Just an update, I received a replacement for my first Roxio Game Capture HD Pro due to the audio problem discussed. I tried it out and the replacement worked like it was supposed to so it was indeed a faulty device. I'm just glad the issue has finally been resolved
Jim_Hardin
Does seem a bit out of the Twilight Zone I just got mine and it is the wrong time of year to be playing around with it! On the output side... You probably should only have either the HDMI or the Component hooked up at one time, not both Shouldn't make any difference but you never know Also, try a completely different audio source! I have used MP3 Players to test out audio capture even with a device like this. Just to see if it makes any difference.
AMENINCE777
I'm not sure if you're still following this topic, Jim, but I've found something strange with the audio. I haven't gotten my replacement unit yet, nor have I found another device to test with. I have, however, found that the component cables are supposed to go from the PS3 to the game capture's input side. Then I'm running HDMI and Component out, which goes to the tv. This is the weird part and I'm going to try to explain it so it's not so confusing lol. If I plug the white audio cable into the white input OR output I get no sound at all. If I plug the red audio cable into the red input OR output I get sound in my right speaker. Now, if I plug the red audio cable into the red input and the white audio cable into the red OUTPUT, I get both channels except they're both in the right speaker and the audio that's specific to the right speaker is louder. I can even record it, which I did and even imported it into Audacity. It showed the left channel blank, but the right channel had signal and was picking up both signals like I said with the right channel audio being louder than the left channel audio. This means it's not the cables, they're still sending the correct signals. It can't be the tv or PS3 because I have everything set correctly audio wise. That leaves the game capture...I'm guessing it's just defective, maybe?
Jim_Hardin
No, when the PS3 is using the component cables there is only one audio option available. Depending on the cables there is a certain list of audio options, but component only has the one option. I'd also like to mention the audio distortion happened again yesterday while I was playing a game. The sound from the tv was fine, but after about an hour the audio started skipping and distorting. So far the only solution has been to restart the PS3, unplugging the game capture and plugging it back in didn't work. Try something completly different!!! Hook up your PS3 Component except the Audio (W/R) connections. Hook them to a completly different source, DVD Player, Record Player, MP3 Player, Radio, etc. Whatever you might have that will give you a Stereo signal into the Roxio Device... Capture something and 'see' what it sounds like

Jim_Hardin
In another Topic, I noted that a user did mention setting an Xbox output to Stereo... Does the PS3 setup have a similar setting???
AMENINCE777
I don't have anything else to use as a test at the moment, but Roxio has emailed me and they're sending me a replacement. Regardless, I'd like to continue working to find the solution to the problems I've had so I can help others with similar problems or at least let Roxio know what to look for error wise. If I can get my hands on a dvd player or something I'll test and see if that works.
Jim_Hardin
I mentioned how it was hooked up, exactly how the game capture instructions tell us to. Can't begin to tell you how many times I have heard that one Try what Tony suggested for an independant test.
ogdens
As a test, hook up a DVD or Camcorder to the Roxio capture card. Is the same problem your TV?.
AMENINCE777
I mentioned how it was hooked up, exactly how the game capture instructions tell us to. The PS3, in my case, is set at 720p via component and the audio is set to the only option there. Cable wise the component cables go from the PS3 to the game capture in the correct order. HDMI and component from the game capture to the tv. Using component out or HDMI out has no effect on the audio. I've tried disabling audio drivers to see if it had any effect and nothing. My drivers are up-to-date and playing audio from any other source plays just fine. I don't know if this helps, but if I plug the red or white cables into the red input I get sound in the right channel no matter which color. If I plug the red or white cables into the white input I get no sound regardless of the cable. I know red goes to red and white goes to white, but I was testing to see. I assure you I have everything correctly set up as it should be, colors match and all cables work. There are no settings on my laptop changing anything to mono or anything with my PS3 or TV. Jim_Hardin
Right Channel (white) is "normal" for monaural recording. I suspect it is not coming out of the gamebox in stereo??? No One has mentioned How it is hooked up! I don't understand why only 2 people see this when the device has been out for many months???
AMENINCE777
I'm not sure about him, but I have everything hooked up exactly as shown. When I open the audio the left channel has no signal, period. No matter the DAW or editor it is opened in, the audio only works in the right channel. I know it isn't the cables because I've tested them by themselves (from PS3 to Tv) and there are no problems, but from PS3 to the Game Cap the left channel will not produce sound. I've also noticed at times that while I have my game cap on the audio from the PS3 will start to stutter and distort. I'm not sure if it's the hardware or the software because the problem wasn't present in the beginning. There has been no damage to the cables nor the game cap, no change in position or anything. I thought after finding a temporary fix for the black screen that things were fine until the audio started messing up. Fortunately I work with music/audio so I knew how to duplicate the right channel to the left channel, but it would be nice to get to the bottom of this. I guess I can test disabling the audio driver like I did the video driver lol.
Jim_Hardin
I'd like to pursue this a little more so that Fixing It is not needed HOW are you hooked up to the Roxio GameCAP HD? If you open the captured file in VideoWave, right click it in the editor and select Edit Native Audio, what do you see? Specificly in the L/R Level, while playing??? AMENINCE777
I know it's not a way to get views because I have the EXACT same problem. No, it isn't the cables either since everybody seems to want you to buy new cables every time something is wrong. What I do in this case is: Extract the audio, import it into Audacity (Free), click the drop down arrow where the wave file is and select "Split Stereo Track." Delete the soundless part of the file, hit ctrl+A to highlight the remaining audio track, press ctrl+C to copy then click in the grey area and press ctrl+V to paste a duplicate of the track. Now, press ctrl+A again to select both tracks, click the drop down arrow and click on "Make Stereo Track." Now sound will be in both speakers, export it as a lossless audio file. Open the video in a video editing program like Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas or even the Video Wave software hardly anybody uses lol. Import the new audio and sync it up with the video file. Delete the old audio and now when you render the video it should all be fine. Hope this helped
