Can't Capture Anything, Laptop Screen Shakes And Turns Black When Connected

I've had this card for about 2 months now, and while it's been glitchy, I've never seen this issue before.

 

My setup is this:

 

XBOX 360 is connected to the capture card via HDMI (720p), capture card HDMI out to the television. I can see the image on the television screen, but as soon as I open up Roxio Game Capture HD Pro, and select "Capture", my laptop screen goes black, and I can see about a inch of the top of the screen shaking back and forth.

 

My laptop is equipped properly. Like I said, I've had this card now for 2 months, and while it's had its problems, nothing like this. I've restarted twice, haven't installed or updated anything since the last time I used it, and have tried different USB slots. I also tried all options through the XBOX, (720, 1080i, 1080p).

 

Tried component as well, same issue.

Pass Through has nothing to do with Capture...

 

But the Device Must Be Powered for pass through to work. Meaning, it is possible your laptop is not providing enough power to run itself while capturing AND the device.

 

It is possible the device has failed but 99.9% of the time that is not the case

[Solution]

I would try three things:

 

1. Reinstall.

 

2. Update your DirectX, or make sure Aero is enabled.

 

3. As a last case scenario, system restore.
