Toast 11 Installed Okay But Won't Run On Mac Pro

Hi, this problem is driving me crazy. I paid for a the latest version of Toast Titanium 11 Pro for my Early 2008 Mac Pro 8 core with OS X 10.8.2. The download went smoothly, as did the install. But when I go to run it, I get the lovely spinning wheel, and must Force Quit the app (shows as Not Responding).

 

The Corel support pages were of no help. I have wasted many hours trying to re-install it and also to install updates.

 

I ran an earlier version of Toast on a Mac Mini and it was awesome. This is very frustrating!

Do you have any Firewire audio or video devices connected? If so, see if it launches with those disconnected. Toast also is searching for the connected optical drives at the time it launches. Do you have multiple internal optical drives? If so, maybe there is a bus conflict. Toast is failing to recognize something during its launch.

Yes, I do have two optical drives in the Mac. One is a Mac Superdrive, and the other is an LG Blu-ray drive. One of my external hard drives is using Firewire, but no audio or video devices are using it.

 

I am new to owning a Mac Pro, so I am pretty much lost as to how to solve (or even find) conflicts. Where do I start?

I also have a Firewire optical drive connected and never encountered the problem you're experiencing. However, it may help to disconnect the external drive to see if that gets Toast to launch all the way. After it completes the launch, quit Toast and reconnect the Firewire drive. Then relaunch Toast. My guess is it will now work.

 

I'm not always right with my guesses, though.

 

It is rare for Toast to have conflicts but it is possible. If you start your Mac in Safe mode and Toast then launches okay, then a conflict is present and I'll need to think hard about where to look for it.

It is possible there is a bus conflict with the two internal optical drives. I recall that there may be a jumper that you need to set on the second drive so it uses a different bus than the first. Maybe there is some advice at Apple's Mac Pro forum regarding this or some info at xlr8yourmac.com. Maybe I'm wrong about this too. It might be easiest to disconnect one of the drives to see if Toast has any trouble launching in that situation. If it launches then the problem is with two connected drives and that leads me to think of a bus conflict.

I have 2006 Mac Pro (Intel 10.7.5) with 2 internal optical drives. First one (master) is LG Blu-ray R/W drive. 2nd one (slave) is regular DVD R/W drive, but can't remember brand. I seem to remember having to set jumpers to work correctly. Also have external LG Blu-ray drive with USB2 connection. All three drives seen and working OK (so far) with Toast 11. Good luck with finding problem. Tsantee a good source of info on possible problems.

Thanks, when I get some time I will pop the hood on the Mac and disconnect the optical drives and give it a go.
