V 1.0.5: Problem After Hide Application Since 10.8.

Question

Hello,

I am using Easy VHS to DVD for Mac since some years and it was always very reliable. Since the release of Mountain Lion (10.8) there is a new problem: when I'm recording and doing (minor) work on that Mac, I sometimes need to hide the application. Typing Command-H will hide the app, but then the small screen where you can follow the recording, freezes. Audio keeps running. The recording is sometimes is okay, sometimes not. As I said, I never ever had this problems with Pre-Mountain Lion MacOS versions.

Since ML is out since I while now, I wonder if this bug will be fixed. I get it on a MacBook Air 11,6 2012 (i7 version) and on all ML versions yet x.0, x.1, x.2. Anyone else saw this problem?

Roxio has stopped development of that version and replaced it with "Roxio Video Capture". The new version captures in either h.264 MPEG 4 or Apple Intermediate Codec instead of as MPEG 2. Both apps work with the same USB device. I don't know how you can obtain the newer version (or if you want to, if your goal is to make DVDs which requires MPEG 2). You might inquire with Roxio customer service.

I'm not sure I understand this - I bought Roxio VHS to DVD last year, when I had OS X 10.7. It didn't work right and I had to return it because it was not made to run on anything after OS X 10.6. I'm now running OS X 10.8 - Does Roxio have something that works on this? What is Roxio Video Capture? I don't see it in their list of products?

The Easy VHS to DVD for Mac now ships with "Roxio Video Capture" instead of "Easy VHS to DVD Capture". It has been this way for about a year. The new application captures in either h.264 or Apple Intermediate Codec instead of the former app's MPEG 2 recordings. I've used both in OS 10.8 but haven't tried hiding either of them during recording.

I don't know how Roxio is handling requests for the newer application. I wish they would post it on their Software Updates page because a user has to have bought the device in order for the app to work. I suggest contacting Roxio Customer Service.

If you are wanting to create DVDs the older application is better because those use MPEG 2 video. But if you want to edit in iMovie or play video on a streaming device such as Apple TV then h.264 is the superior format.
