Select Video Device Failed

TacitDesert

Question

I have been messing with the Roxio Game Capture HD Pro all day and have had no success in resolving this problem. When I open up the capture program it instantly hits to "Select Video Device Failed." I have tried swapping out HDMI cords, swapping out USB cables, and multiple xbox with no success.

My computer meets and exceeds the specifications listed. (Dxdiag attached) I have also uninstalled, reinstalled, and repaired multiple times with and without my firewall/AV running. On a side note, I attached my bluray player and it says "Copyright Protected" so I at least know that the device can see something is attached. After spending countless hours on the forums here I have not seen an answer to the issue and I am currently waiting on a response from roxio.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -Glaw

Not seeing anything in your file that jumps out...

I think what you want to do is try a repair but make sure you do it this way...

Plug in the Capture device and Disable it in the Device Manager (Sound and Video Game Controllers)

Unplug the device and put it aside till later.

Turn off your Anti Virus, Firewalls, Registry Cleaners, etc. and insert your Roxio Disc

Be sure you accept the offer to Check for Updates (this is for Roxio, not Windows)

When you reach the screen where
Repair
is offered, choose that!

When the Repair competes, you will have to reapply the SP1.1 for game capture.

Then turn your AV & Firewall back on and reboot.

I repaired it twice and still have the same issue.

My experience installing or repairing, when you say yes to check for updates, it will contact Roxio servers and download three files.

Sp 1.1 will be applied in both instances but never shows in the version build.

Is there any listing under your input? I can't see one from your posted pic.

Tell us what box your using and the connections from it to everything? Please be specific.

@Jim Yes sir I did the same steps. I later got an email from support to do:

Go to Device Manager, plug the Game Capture HD Pro device in and then delete the entry that pops up and remove the device.

Reboot, and leave the device unplugged.

Do a repair. Insert the installation disc then choose Repair when it is offered. Make sure you turn off your Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware and Firewalls before you insert the disc. When repair is complete, turn your Anti-Virus/ Malware and Firewall back on and then reboot.

Then, insert the Game Capture Device. It will now install the drivers. Go to Device Manager. On ‘Sound, video and game controllers’, you should see one entry ‘Roxio GameCAP HD PRO’. Try to re-launch the program and start capturing. Let me know if this works.

And I still have the same problem.

@cdanteek Box is Roxio Game Capture HD Pro. Running HDMI to the box and from the box. I am using the default USB given in the package (I have tried a 3 foot cable and still had the same issue). The input never populates at the top, but when I reseat the cables at the bottom it says HDMI and I get the same error message.

Box meaning console, PS3 or XBox?

Are you following this setup to the 'T' for your Box/Console? http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/game-capture/hd-pro/overview.html

Double check in Device Manager, in ‘Sound, video and game controllers’, that you see the one entry ‘Roxio GameCAP HD PRO’

Yes there is only one entry there and no errors. Earlier I did what technical support suggested with right clicking, uninstalling, then running repair but still not working properly.

Figured out the issue without the help of technical support for my case. Roxio Gamecapture HD Pro does not work with recent limited edition consoles in the past 2 years. Every console I own is a limited edition one and none of them worked with the device. I went to a friend's house and the device worked fine with his Xbox 360 Slim. Brought his console to my house and it works fine.
