Cant Convert Video From Web

i have an imac and when trying to convert video from facebook it will not convert. Does anyone know how to get this to work? It worked when i first installed the software but my hard drive crashed and i have a new hard drive so i am starting all over to get my applications to work. it mentions something about opening the web browser but safari is open as i view a video from facebook but the convert function is not picking up the video stream. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do some tests by going to Vimeo.com and try out a couple of their videos. If it works there then there is something about the Facebook video (such as the codec used) that isn't compatible with Toast's Web video capture.

well the videos on vixio did convert. the weird thing is that i use to be able to convert videos off of facebook with the toast software but after my hard drive crashed and i installed a new one i cant get it to work now. is there a default somewhere or a program that can be installed so the facebook videos can be converted? thanks for your help.

Toast remembers if it has already captured a video and won't do it again. I presume you restored your data to the new hard drive from a backup. In that case I suggest selecting Flash Player in System Preferences and deleting the local storage of info that Flash keeps on each video you play. I'm not certain this will restore this feature in Toast but it is the only thing I can think of.

thanks tsantee for the advice. it still doesnt' work. is there a software package that you would recommend in which i can convert web video that will include sound from a website such as facebook that i can use on my mac? i make family videos each year in which i convert the video to my imovie and include still frame pictures. it is a project that i have been doing for a couple of years and want to continue the tradition.. thank you..

Sounds like a well-appreciated project. I don't have any first-hand experience with other web video capture apps. I suggest going to macupdate.com and doing a search and reading user reviews.

Does your system support running Firefox? http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-mac

 

If so, FF has a add on called Downloadhelper 4.9.10.

 

Grabs almost all web video I have tried.
