Toast 11 Dvd Custom Menu

Bruce M

Question

I am trying to create a custom DVD menu for Toast 11and am having problems with Toast finding it. I modified an existing menu file using Photoshop CS2 and placed it in the same folder as the other menu templates. After upgrading Toast as well as removing the Preferences file it still does not appear under the menu button. Any thoughts?

I did a complete remove and reinstall and nothing changed. I was able to determine that the Menu's are in the Library section and that if they are removed they do not show up in the Menu Style selection. What I still do not understand is why I can change a menu name in the library, and even the file content, with no change in what appears when a menu item is selected. Using ACDSee Pro I was able to find some of the files mentioned in previous replies and making changes & removing the PLIST and Pref files did nothing to help create a custom menu using Photoshop. I have to say that I have used toast for a number of years, as supplied, for basic operations. Now that I have a desire to dig deeper it shows a lot of holes in both the software as well as the documentation. Any suggestions for a better authoring program?

Control-click on the Toast application in the Finder and choose Show Package Contents. Look for the Toast Menu Styles folder inside the Resources folder. I don't know what will make a new menu style recognized in Toast. What I've done is choose a font I like among the existing styles and drag in a new background image.

To change the Menu Name of a Custom Menu item , in Photoshop with the new PSD open, go to File/File Info and change the Description Title to the name you want Toast to display. The new Menu may not show in toast under the Menu Style Drop down but click Custom and the new Menu should show under the Drop Down Menu Style Selector.

I don't have any experience with this. I once tried to modify a Toast menu and had the same result as you. You might try duplicating the original menu and move it out of the folder. Then you can save the modified one using the same file name as the original. There also is a Toast Menu Styles folder in the Toast package that contains the Splash menu. You might try adding the modified one there and relaunching Toast to see if it appears. Otherwise there might be something hidden in the file that was saved that prevents Toast from recognizing it. Maybe using BlueHarvest to strip those hidden items will make it visible to Toast.

I sure hate to sound like a real novice but I am unable to get to "Show Package Contents". I also am not able to find the Resources folder. I wonder if I need to do a reinstall and see if there is an option for a limited install. My Toast Menus are located in the Library/Application Support/Roxio/Toast Menu Styles. I have found nothing else, even hidden files, relating to Toast.

Hold down the control key while clicking on the Toast application in the Finder. A contextual menu pops up that has Show Package Contents as one of the options.

Thanks for the input. I did try what you mentioned about the file name & replacing a current menu, alas no change. I also looked for the SPLASH menu and it appears to be embedded within the Toast App itself, I was unable to find it even with hidden files showing. I deleted the prefs for Toast and even renamed an existing file without changing the contents. The renamed file did not show up, just the original. I wonder if there is a file that holds the menus that I am not finding?
