Hi,

I looked in the hardware device manager and the the capture USB and USB 2861 device are present, just as you showed. I've tried to attach a printscreen but I'm not sure I succeeded.

For the record: I started the thread telling I lost my key. Well, I found it back on the Roxio website because I registered when I first installed it.

I like to digitize VHS tapes made in the 90's. It does recognise the capture USB, it doesn't say "no video signal", the little screen is just black, but the capture button remains grayed out.I can play the VHS tapes on TV, so these are not empty.

The funny thing is that when I install the old analog Sony camera (so with the little recording cassettes), I do get pictures.

A few more things: I've also tried a several VCR's and connection cables. I've tried a several laptops and a dektop. And just a few minutes ago, I downloaded a trial of another brand that is compatible with the Roxio USB. This says: there is no video signal coming in. So when I put everything together: VCR works (ore all VCR's are malfunctioning), connection cables right (or all are false), the software works and also the computer (or all are malfunctioning) but simply recieves no images, I can only think of a malfunctioning capture device.

Can you try feeding the VHS signal to a DVD player or to the Sony camcorder and then to the capture device. Some ( just a few been reported in this forum) of the devices have given problems when the VCR output is not putting out strong enough video signal.

Hi Ogdens,

You mean I should amplify the VCR-signal by sending it over a DVD-player or the Sony? You might be right, the only worry I have is: When a signal comes in (but it is too weak), why stays the capture button grayed out? I'm prone to think that it should'nt be grayed out but the little screen shows no images. Nevertheless, I'll see tomorrow if I can line this up and give it a try!

Thanks anyway for the thinking

You said you got pictures when the Sony was connected? Were you able to capture? If yes then the capture card and software is working correctly.

If a too weak signal comes in the capture button remains disabled I would think.

I am having the same issue. No video signal and greyed out button. However in reading the thread I noticed that my devices does not have the USB 2861 device but has the other one. does this mean there is something wrong with the ROXIO disc I installed?

Yes it means you installed the software AFTER you plugged in the USB Capture Device ~ always a No No with USB

Delete what you have in Device Manager then unplug the device and set it aside till you are done...

Reboot, insert the disc and choose Repair when offered.

Another reboot and you should be in business ;)
