Black Images And Transitions With Nxt

poemsmith

Question

I am using Creator NXT and have the same problem. hours and days of work go into creating these projects only to have the Roxio program mess it up. I create my movies in videowave. I save it. I either try ti directly encode to a video file or burn to disc. None of the suggestions work. There is simply a problem with Roxio. I repeatedly have tried to encode a videowave production but always came up with balck transitions and some black imagees in the final production. It does not matter what video format I use. It is not always the same transitions, images. And I have even replaced the "offending" images/transitions, all to no good. It starts encoding for a couple minutes, them boom. Again, the black transitions. So, I thought I would try to burn a disc instead. I did that. This time I had only 2 transitions and a couple pictures render black. Again, it does not matter whether I burn at a slower speed. I have tried them all. My computer is up to date and working fine. This is not acceptable. I pay a lot of money for these Roxio programs. I think it is time Roxio stopped trying to blame user error or computer problems/updating, software vs hardware settings, etc. and actually tried to fix the problem with their software. And now, you can't even contact "support"--I use that term loosely--without paying. If a company put out a workable, good and decent product, it would/should be happy to offer real support without charging it's loyal customers.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to successfully burn a disc from videowave, or encode to a video file, without getting the black transitions or sporadic black images? I am frustrated and dejected beyond belief. These projects are extremely important. And now, I can't even continue to make them because it is pointless.

In my case, I am using Windows 7 and Roxio Creator NXT.

For a solution to the black images

1) If they are always the same ones, double click on them and the editor will open, add something small like a 1pixel blur. That will fix that issue.

2) If the images that are black differ when you encode (render the project), when you go to burn, burn to a folder set or ISO image file. After it completes, if you burned to the ISO file, use VLC to see if the images and transitions are OK. If so, then use the application on the Home page or Video Copy and convert to burn the ISO to a disc. This separates the rendering from the burning so your computer doesn't have to work so hard.

A couple of things to remember:

1) Good quality discs are essential. Usually Verbatim (Singapore) or JVC Taiyo Yuden are best. Memorex and store brands are usually the worst.

2) You can get one hour of best quality video on a single layer disc. Anymore will cause degradation of the quality of the playback.

3) Some problems are with the software but sometimes they are with the computer. Please attach the DXDIAG evaluation of your computer to your reply. Follow these instructions.

Although you are having a similar problem to the thread where you posted, you do have a different software package. Because of that, if these general instructions do not help, you may have a different solution. I am moving these posts to the right forum.

I am having the same problem with Creator NXT, and finding it very difficult to get support from Roxio. I plan to return the product and use something else to create DVDs of our holidays. Too much time has already been wasted trying to find out why this problem is happening. My computer was purchased 18 months ago, runs Windows 7, and uses NVIDIA GeForce GT 430 with the latest driver.

Do you have the same computer, etc? Are your doing the same project? If not then you do not have the same problem even though you may be having similar symptoms.

Why don't you tell us a bit about your project? The symptoms have been reported before and quite often were project related.

I am getting black images and transitions when using MyDVD to create a DVD of holiday photos and videos, so the problem is the same. I have been using Roxio products to create DVDs for some time. On a recent riverboat cruise we stopped at numerous towns on the Rhine River. I like to create a DVD with menu items for each town. When clicked, the menu item displays the photos and videos taken when in the town. I also like to add scrolling text to some of the photos and video in the project. The photos and video were taken with a Sony camera and have file extensions .jpg and .mts, respectively.

I was able to overcome the problem of black images appearing in the final product in a two step process. In the first step I used VideoWave to create a display of pictures and video for a menu item that I wanted to create in the DVD. When creating the display for a given menu item, I would first save the production and then use the Output>Export As... menu to save the display as a mpg file. This was repeated for each menu item in the planned DVD. The second step was to use MyDVD to create the menu by using Add New Movie to add the corresponding mpg file for each menu item wanted in the DVD. My menu items included a mixture of pictures and video with scrolling text added, as well. Needless to say, I have not returned the product and have no plans to use another to create DVDs of our holidays.
