outerbank
Looking for some input for a antivirus program that is both very effective and the least intrusive. Have used Norton Internet Security for several years. Had been satisfied up until recently. Started having a problem with the computer not wanting to shut down without showing ccsvchst. Have to click on End Program. Upon Googling this problem, I've discovered this is a problem that appears to be related to Norton's latest update to NIS 2013, which I have. Searching the Norton support forum, there are numerous queries about this problem. Apparently, Norton is both not acknowledging there is a problem, nor has provided a workable solution. I connected to Norton support via their chat. Waited several minutes, was connected and upon connection was told that this is normal. Suddenly the connection was severed with the message that the connection was disrupted. Norton apparently has eliminated contacting them via e-mail, which in the past appeared to be an effective way to sort out problems, because I have been unable to find this option on their support webpage. Thanks for any suggestions.

There are many AV programs out there, and I am sure that you will get a multitude of different reasons for using, or not using a particular AV software. sknis
Actually the Windows built in anti-virus is very good and is updated frequently. It is Security Essentials (link). I have a long term subscription with GFI's Vipre security which is very good. I hardly know that I have it - aka doesn't slow down the computer but seems to work. I'm careful so I don't go places where I have to worry about viruses nor do i open e-mails that may be questionable.
