I purchased Easy VHS to DVD 3 a couple of weeks ago. I just tried to install the software and during setup comes up: Product key could not be validated. Please try again. What can I do to fix this?

Did you purchase it from Best Buy? Have a look at the threads below yours. (Easy VHS to DVD 3 Forums)

Thanks, I did not see the previous post. Actually I purchased it at Wal-Mart, while on vacation, and I have misplaced the receipt. But I know what day I bought it and I paid with a credit card so they should be able to look it up. I will let you know what they say. Thanks again!

Hi lpf_526,

The error you are getting means the Roxio software cannot determine if your activation code is correct. This mainly has todo with the software's ability to connect with and receive a response from the Roxio Verification Servers.

Try disabling your Firewall and Antivirus. Also, if you are using a corporate proxy server or a VPN connection to access the internet, this too may cause the issue.

The bestbuy issue that grandpabruce mentioned is a different issue altogether, where the activation code has been verified as 'not activated'. That issue is related to a POSA (Point of sale activation) issue between the store and Roxio.

If you continue to receive the 'could not be validated' error, try installing it on another computer and preferably bypassing your router and connecting the computer directly to your cable modem or DSL modem. This will eliminate any device that could be blocking the verification process.

Keep us posted on the results.

Have a good weekend.
