Standard Game Capture Not Functioning

Frumpie

Question

After updating to Windows 8 on my desktop pc, I am no longer able to capture using the Roxio capturing software. When I plug in the capturing card, windows tells me "USB Device not recognized." I have installed the latest software and drivers and did a fresh install from the disk that comes with the card. I am sure that everything is plugged in properly and have re-watched the setup video several times to be sure. I also have the latest service pack and there is no damage to the card or any cords. I have tried on multiple computers and on all of my USB ports, 2.0 and 3.0. Under device manager, the capture card comes up under 'Other Devices' as 'Unknown Device' and I am unable to update drivers from there or manage the device in other ways. I know that the correct drivers are installed, however, because under "Sound, video and game controllers" both "Roxio GAMECAPs" come up, but only when I show hidden devices. I found some postings online that said I could fix this problem by unplugging my power source to let the motherboard completely turn off, but this has not solved the problem. I have an Intel Core i-5-2500k processor, AMD Radeon HD 6800 series graphics card, 8GB RAM, and an ASUS motherboard. I was wondering if other people have been experiencing this problem and if there has been a solution.

Thanks,

Frumpie

Another person who clicked the Solved button (by mistake probably). Please be careful; it hides your post.

I'm not sure how you tried to attach the two images but they did not attach.

You posted in the forum for capturing games played on a PC. I'm sure you didn't mean to ..I moved it.

Try this first:

Plug in the Capture device and Disable ALL roxio entries in the Device Manager

Unplug the device and put it aside till later.

Turn off your Anti Virus, Firewalls, Registry Cleaners, etc. and insert your Roxio Disc, and run Install

Be sure you accept the offer to Check for Updates (this is for Roxio, not Windows)

When you reach the screen where Repair is offered, choose that!

Then turn your AV & Firewall back on and reboot.

See if that works.

Try this:

Download the Revo Uninstaller. Then turn off your AV & and any Firewall you are using.

Run the Revo Uninstall, in Moderate mode, and uninstall Roxio!

Reboot and with the AV & Firewall still off, install Roxio software..... then plug in the Roxio USB

Turn on your AV & Firewall and reboot.

See if the Device Manager shows the Game Cap in the correct location
