Dvds Burned From Vhs Home Video Won't Play In Player

cee3

Question

I'm having a heck of a time with DVDs burned on a new Plextor PX 740A burner. I've imported VHS into .mpg. I've then tried to create the DVD directly using MyDVD and I've tried creating VIDEO_TS, etc. folders and burning a data disc. Each way produces a DVD that plays fine on my PC, but won't play in either of 3 DVD players I have. My Sony player (DVP NC615) tells me it won't play due to "area limitation", but I'm in region 1, the DVD burner is region 1, the player is region 1. A Pioneer (model ?) player plays the DVD, but the video is distorted and unwatchable. A Toshiba player (model ?) displays "Err". Is there something in the software that gives the disc a region code?

I'm using TDK 8x DVD-R discs. These came packaged with the DVD burner. I guess I should try another brand of discs. But I'd hate to have to go out and buy a new set top player. Anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks.

Make sure that NTSC is selected in your settings. Open that production in MyDVD, click on File, then click on Project Settings.

If it is set correctly, then try a different brand of media.

Thanks Bruce. I checked the setting and it is NTSC. I then tried a different brand of media (Sony DVD-R) and same result.

I've been having the same problem. Nothing I burn will play on my Panasonic DVD player. They play on my cheap AKAI DVD player but the disk skips in the same places... I checked out my particular model (Panasonic DVD-RV31) and it can indeed play DVD-R discs. I asked the 'geeks' at Best Buy and they said to download another version of DVD authoring software to try......who KNOWS what conflicts will arise from that!

Another issue I'm having is my video coming out bitmapped looking even though I'm using the highest quality settings....thought I'd read somewhere on here that the 'progressive' setting is better quality but when I use that my sound skips around.

I believe your burner will also burn DVD 'plus' media. You might want to try that type of media for better compatibility.

I also had a similar problem -- anything I burned would play on my Sanyo TV top DVD player, but not in the Samsung. I actually called Samsung and they said the disks needed to be "finalized" in order to play on their equipment. I did not realize that it is impossible to finalize a DVD-RW! So I am now using DVD-R disks and finalizing them. (to finalize, on the main Roxio EMC8 menu, under tools is the "finalize" option)

Also, regarding the skipping thing. In another section of this discussion board, Merv suggested that I burn to an ISO file and then burn the copy of that ISO file to the disk. He also suggested disabling spyware, etc and even the internet. I did all those things and I seem to be in good shape now. :)

Best Regards, Cathie
