Installing One Product Uninstalls The Other...and Other Issues

Opus4210

Question

I have purchased both Roxio Easy DVD Copy Premier and Roxio RecordNow Premier. These are the problems I am having:

  1. If I install one of these two products, it uninstalls the other (the installer shows the step where it does the uninstall). There seems to be no way to have both products installed at the same time.

  2. I had RecordNow 2010 Premier and yesterday (1/31) upgraded to RecordNow Music Lab 10 Premier.

    1. Even though they have renamed it slightly to a "Music Lab", the name has stayed the same on the installed product

    2. It's installed to the Roxio 2010 folder

    3. The product looks the same! I can't find any distinction with the version number either, which seem completely detached from the product.

[*]I registered RecordNow Music Lab 10 Premier today and the registration email contained no support code (mentioned in a previous post).

[*]After registration, my list of registered products is now completely messed up!

  1. Easy DVD Copy Premier no longer shows--it did until this registration

  2. A new registration for Roxio Central--a product I never purchased--has been added

  3. Rather than showing me upgraded to RecordNow Music Lab 10, I now have two entries for Roxio RecordNow Premier.

So far, I like the rip/burn speed but the user interface is unintuitive and feels like they're slapping stuff together.

I feel like I'm being ripped off.

Yes Roxio does seem to cut and slice. f you just bought both of them, contact Roxio sales and see if you can get a good deal on Roxio Creator NXt. It is an all in one product. If you bought them locally , take them back.

Where did you see those products? The names are not that as shown on the Roxio sales page. Copy DVD is this; Record Now is this. Use of old names throws us off and we may start down a wrong path. My guess is that the installation of one is not completye before you install the other or that you are using Windows 8 operating system.

Roxio central is what ties everythign together and could be part of either or both programs.

Registration should not have any effect on the programs.

I have never heard of RecordNow 2010 premier

Thanks, Brendon, for finding the one package.

Yes, myguggi, I made the mistake of typing "RecordNow 2010 Premier" when I meant "RecordNow Premier" (because it was installed into a "Roxio 2010" folder).

For both myguggi and sknis, I did note that I had upgraded it to "RecordNow Music Lab 10 Premier", so I thought that it would be enough information.

Registration should not have any effect on the programs.

I can assure you that the problems I had in #4 did occur.

I'm using Windows 7, and I'm sure that I'm running each one to completion. The fact is, as I mentioned in #1, I can see the installer purposely deleting the other product.

Frankly, I'm in a Catch-22 with support: I need a support code to contact Roxio, and I can't get a support code. (see http://forums.suppor...o-support-code/)

Well I am totally confused by what programs you actually have or have installed.

What is RoxioCentral? Do you have Roxio Creator 2010? You mention that one of the programs installed into that folder? Why would you do that?

Why are you buying all these "piecemeal" programs? If you had bought Roxio Creator 2012 or the newer NXT you would have everything in one package and would probably not be in the situation you are in now.

I have no idea what Roxio Central is. That's just what appears now, and I haven't purchased it (this link http://roxio-central-core.software.informer.com/ describes it, though).

And I said that they installed into a folder named "Roxio 2010", not "Roxio Creator 2010"--I'm guessing it's because they're part of the same 'family'.

The new RecordNow is here: http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/recordnow/premier/overview.html. It replaces the 2010 version, so I can't find a link to that. Brendon found the link to Easy DVD (above).

I'm sure you're right, but Roxio Creator is $100, while I got the two software packages for about $40 (with incentive pricing).

I believe that Roxio Central is the screen that gives you the list of program choices you get when you click on your desktop Roxio icon.

That makes my scenario even more bizarre then, doesn't it? It shouldn't be a product that displays on my list of purchased products.

That link you posted is totally useless and and the information at informer is meaningless.. Roxio central Core is not a standalone program and cannot be purchased as such.

That's pretty much the point that Opus4210 is making in his first post, Walt.

He is doing an excellent job searching for information for us, but what he has found seems to be all that is available.

To get back to the problem, it seems that the installers for these 'diced-and-sliced' suitelets are mutually incompatible. I can't see any cure for this except reverse-engineering the installers, which is believe is expressly prohibited by the EULAs. Opus would not be able to have them both on the same system without losing components to the nasty installer.

I would recommend a return for a refund, if Opus has that option.

Regards,

Brendon

Thanks, Brendon. I think that is my only option. It would seem that, while the sliced & diced products have been tested to work independently, they have not been tested to work in pairs.

What I will do is try to get a refund on the most recent one that I have purchased--it's too late for the others--and either get the full package or look at another product. After this experience, you'll understand if I'm not quite as cheery about Roxio as I was coming in.

Yes, quite understood.

Now that Corel have acquired Roxio I am hoping that they will discontinue the practice of selling severely-disabled subsets of their flagship program suites. They don't help the customers, or the reputation of the company.
