"device Error" When Encoding

When attempting to bur a large movie to a double density disk, using Creator 12, Windows 7 on a PC, the encoding process gets to about 98% done and then stops and gives the message "An unrecoverable device error occured. Error while encoding Movie 1"

 

I've done a lot to try and run this one down- Creator 12 worked just fine on several other movies of similar length and format, but suddenly just stopped. So far I have uninstalled all other movie and video burning software, uninstalled Creator 12 and then reloaded it, checked for updates and even gone as far as to have a new DVD burner installed... still the same issue.

 

Any suggestions?

I'm sure you mean double layer and not double density and I'm sure you mean Creator 2012 !

 

Please post the information on your computer this way. (link) That will let us know about your computer, drivers and free space on your hard drive.

 

If you are trying to burn a DRM encoded movie, it won't work. Protection changes frequently and perhaps the other movies were not DRM protected or had poor protection. What movie is it and where did you get it?

 

When was the last time you did any maintenance on your computer - clear out temp files, defrag, etc. Read this to see if it helps.

The computer was serviced this week and had 311Gb space on one drive and 707 Gb on the other. It has a twice weekly total system scan done including optimize of space.

 

The "movies" in question are non-copywritten personal videos. Format is mpeg2 converted from .avi.

So how long in time is that video?

Have you tried just "burning" to an image file or a folder set instead of directly to DVD? That will separate the encoding process from the burning process. If successful you can then use Video Copy&COnvert and burn the iso or folder set to DVD.

Actually, I'm beginning to think that my problem is in Creator 2012 itself. When I try and open Video Wave, it now crashes, or it with simply freeze. Additionally, I now cannot get the Audio burner to see that there is a disk in the drive. Yet, my standard Windows media player will burn a CD and my standard Windows DVD maker will burn normally to the same drive. As I said earlier, I have uninstalled Rocio Creator 2012 and reinstalled it, but the problem remains.

 

I'm wondering if my Creator 2012 disk itself had a buggy program on it. It worked in my desired capacity exactly twice.

 

BTW, the original file in question is 5:32:33 in length and 17.8 gb, but now I cannot get Video Wave to work, so I cannot even call up a smaller file to test.

Depending on your computer feeding videowave a "5:32:33 video in length" might make it freeze for a while or forever depending on the PC specs!

 

Using My DVD to burn a dual layer DVD at HQ High Quality setting you will only fit about two hours of video.

My advice is to start from scratch. Download the trial version of Revo Uninstaller Pro and use it in the moderate mode to force uninstall the program. That will get rid of everything including the safe to remove registry entries.

 

Update you computer using these steps.

 

If you have a question about the program disc, copy it to a folder on your computer and install it from there. Do not let the computer install it in the compatibility mode.

 

As others have said, do not go over about one hour at a time.. Your computer is only a double core and must work very hard to do anything well. Quad cores are much better.

 

If you really need to put six hours on a single DVD, look at DivX format (your DVD player must be able to play that format).
