Card Won't Work With A Usb Splitter?

GaZZuM

Question

I want to start recording myself playing games, and so I havebought myself quite a lot of equipment I knew I'd need.

Just to plug into my 3 usb slots on my laptop I have: the Roxio, usb microphone, laptop cooler, HD webcam, external hard drive and mouse. I bought a usb splitter but hardly any of these devices work when hooked up to the splitter.

Why is this?

The Roxio, as the prime example, is clearly getting power, as the light on the front of the card is on, but it refuses to output any picture to the tv or the laptop, unless it's connected to the laptop DIRECTLY, and then apparently all is well. It's unbelievably frustrating to have bought all this equipment and for it to be all useless.

If by a splitter you mean a USB hub then those are generally useless. Does the hub have its own power supply? If not then most devices that you attach will not work.

The Roxio device is propably not getting enough power even though the light comes on.

I didn't even know a powered usb hub was a thing o_0

Had no idea it would be a power problem because the light on the Roxio came on, it does make sense though now I think about it.

So if I were to get a hub with its own power supply, my accessories should work fine?

Maybe you want to rip out all of those USB hogs and try it while attached to AC power AND only use the RGC along with your touchpad...

Test all your USB outlets as it is doubtful all of them provide full power ;)

You want to test this and confirm all is well before throwing money at a problem, on the hope it will fix it!
