Question

When I tried to open a dvd with pictures burned using older Microsoft, received error message that I needed to install a UDF reader to correct problem. Roxio automatically 'tried' to update my Creator 12 installation. But received the error that it could not install. How do I correct this.

If Roxio is trying to update a program for a UDF reader? Then you didn't burn a dvd with pictures using a older Microsoft program, did you?

All kinds of Roxio UDF readers and version updates. What one would you need is the question?

You could try isobuster or http://www.cdroller.com/htm/download.html to see if it can be read at all

If it can be, then you can purchase the program (the trial is free)

HOLD EVERYTHING!

If you have tried to open a DVD and the system tells you that you need a UDF reader or offers to install one, DON'T CLICK OK! You can do a lot of harm to your system if it tries to install a UDF reader off the DVD.

As Cdanteek suspects, you say your disc was written by an "older Microsoft", but it sounds to me that it might have been written by an older Adaptec/Roxio/Sonic program. These discs will some times offer to install an older UDF reader which is not compatible with later operating systems, and you can get into trouble if you let them. You are probably getting this message because you have [unwisely] left your Autorun set to 'On' and it is automatically running the program from the DVD.

What Operating System are you using? Modern Operating Systems should read these discs unaided.

If you can't read the DVD but need the contents, I'd suggest one of the programs Ogdens suggested rather than trying to install an un-needed and perhaps outdated UDF reader.

Regards,

Brendon
