High Def Dvd From Tivo Transfer Will Not Burn

MaxwellT

Question

I am using Toast 11.1 with the High Def/BlueRay plug in. I am trying to burn a HD show I recorded on an HD TIVO and transferred with the Toast TIVO Transfer app. I cannot get a DVD that will play, after completing the burning. I have 4 failures, including after I slowed the burn rate significantly.

I get this error message:

"The document BDMV could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-70166)" (msg attached)

I am burning an HD TV show recording onto a HD video DVD. Not Blue-Ray. But the resulting DVD has a BDMV file. Isn't that Blue-ray not HD?

It will not play on my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.8) nor on my DVD player, which is not Blue-Ray anyway.

Suggestions, please.

Thanks!

Because you have the Blu-ray plugin Toast can make three different types of video discs.

1) DVD-video: This is the kind that can play on regular DVD players.

2) High-definition DVD-video: This fits on regular or dual-layer DVD discs but requires a Blu-ray disc player for playback.

3) Blu-ray video: This requires a Blu-ray disc burner and requires a Blu-ray disc player for playback.

A regular DVD player cannot play high-definition video. In order to play the TiVo transfer on a regular DVD player you need to use the DVD video setting in Toast to create the video disc.

I have tried again to burn a high-def DVD of this program recorded by TIVO. I specify High-Def DVD, not Blu-Ray, but keep getting a BDMV file. It will not play on my MacBookPro Retina, which will play high def videos. How can I get a playable High-Def version not a Blu-Ray?

I have burned a standard def version of the show, which will play.

Thanks.

A High-Def DVD is a Blu-ray format burned to a standard DVD disc. It has a BDMV folder because that is true for any Blu-ray formatted video disc. To play this on your Mac, insert the High-Def DVD and launch Roxio Video Player (you'll find it in the Toast Extras menu). Then select the disc and it will play on your Mac.
