Tivo File Manipulation

cckahrl

Question

There is no listing whatsoever of the TIVO file functionality of Toast 11. In Toast 9 you can hit burn, put in a DVD and that is about it. You therefore take a crappy TV signal and make it even worse.

Does TIVO allow high quality digital files in Toast now, or does it intentionally degrade them like it used to? Can you do anything with a TIVO file other than convert to MPEG2 while burning on a DVD?

If you want to convert the TiVo video to a format such as h.264 MPEG-4 then Toast must scale it no larger than 640x480 according to limits set by TiVo. That is bigger than it used to be so it may be bigger than with Toast 9. If you have the Toast Blu-ray plugin you can choose Save as Disc Image and Toast will create a full-scale .m2ts file from the TiVo Transfer. Mount the disc image and add the .m2ts file to the Convert window and the conversion then can be actual size.
