Photosuite 4 Problem

so which one should i get that will work with Win 7?

These are not recommendation and are here for information only.

Roxio doesn't seem to have a stand-alone photo editing program any more. Creator NXT has one built in and it also comes with PaintShop 4 (old versions). Creator is a suite of programs incluing photo editing, video editing, slide show making and more.

Roxio was bought by Corel and Corel has PaintShop Pro X5 that you can trial (here). It is a much more feature rich image editing program that what you have and what is in Creator NXT.

Note that PhotoSuite has not changed much over several years (I never used Version 4 so I'm not sure of its capabilities) but PhotoSuite is included in Creator 2012 or 2011. You may find a new old disc of one of those. on line.

Other than photo editing, what else would you use the program for?

I sent you a prinavte message, Look at the top of this page for it. Click on the envelop icon.

My Photosuite 4 worked great, even in Windows 7, up until a Microsoft update earlier this month. Now, it's just an empty white box, and I'm trying to learn to use my Photosuite 11 and am really not liking it.

The more I tried Photosuite 11, the less I liked it. I did get Photosuite 4 running again, but it was a real project to do it. I had to download and install Microsoft's Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode programs, but I can now run Photosuite 4 in Windows XP mode.

I had the same problem You had. I had Photosuite 4 running in Windows 7 until the last up date. Now, nothing.

Could you please post details on what You did to get Photosuite 4 working in Win 7?

Thanks in Advance!!!

In order to use Windows Virtualization, you must be running Windows Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate. If you're running the Home version, you'll have to decide if upgrading is worth it to you.

This really is a convoluted process, so have some patience. The way I found the instructions was by clicking the START button, and clicking on the HELP AND SUPPORT link. Then I searched for "run in XP Mode". It gave me a link to "Install and use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7". Print that proceedure so you can get back to it.

The first process is to download a program to see if your computer will support virtualization.

Then download and install Windows XP Mode as well as Windows Virtualization mode.

Windows XP mode runs like a seperate computer within your computer. When you first run it, it really does look like a screen from the old XP days. You'll need to instal an antivirus within XP Mode.

Finally, you can install PhotoSuite 4 within XP Mode. You can create a shortcut right on your Win 7 desktop that will open PhotoSuite 4 within an XP window. But I still haven't figured out how to put Photosuite 4 into a right-click menu.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the information! Unfortunately I have the WIn 7 Home Premium O/S on my laptop. I dunno if I'm go upgrade that machine. I have an older laptop with Win XP and Photosuite 4 on it and I may just use that machine instead. Also, I'm building a new desktop with Win 8 on it and I understand that there are workarounds to get P/4 to work in that environment. Do you know what it was about the last Win 7 update that made Photosuite 4 quit? Mine worked fine up until then. Thanks very much for the information though, and continued success in your enterprises!

All. For anyone who has Photosuite 4 and Win 7 Premium 64 bit O/S, and have had P4 recently stop working, the reason maybe because Windows updated you from IE 9 to IE 10. According to information I obtained from the Microsoft Community Website, the solution to the getting P 4 to work again was the simple REMOVAL of IE 10. You go to Control Panel/Programs and Features and view recently installed updates. Find the Internet Explorer 10 update and uninstall it. (You revert back to IE 9)

I tried it and it WORKED for me, but use at Your OWN Risk!

In the meantime, some of us need to get together and ask, no DEMAND that features such as: Touch Up, Special Effects, Paint and Draw, and other features that made Photosuite 4 so Great, be put BACK in the NEXT Roxio Version of Photosuite!

Good Luck!!!!

" features such as: Touch Up, Special Effects, Pain and Draw" ?

I thought it was already a pain !.

Don't count on a different/ improved version of PhotoSuite. There is no stand alone program and it may be dropped from Creator altogether because Corel has the photo editing program in Creator NXT Pro. I doubt that they would be willing to spend money to do much in the way of redesigning PhotoSuite rather than improving their PaintShop Pro program.

I am just a long time user and have no inside knowledge of what Roxio/Corel will do.

Son of a Gun, it worked! And it was a whole lot simpler than the method I first used.

Let me begin by saying that i am electronically challenged so please bear with me. I love photo suite and agree with person who said we should try to get it re-instated. Its simple and basic so easy to use. When I first purchased this computer, i bought photo shop and last week tried the paint shop pro free trial that was mentioned in one of the posts. They are both far more than i need and more importantly far more work for me. I had purchased a disk of photosuite 4 a few weeks ago and was able to download it, however the vertical menu (that allows you to zoom, erase, etc) did not install. i tried working without it for a time but decided i really wated to be able to zoom) so i had the bright idea to uninstall it and try to start all over again. BIG MISTAKE. now i cant it to install at all. As i said - I am electronically challenged. Reading the various comments, i thought perhaps the problem was with IE. I tried to follow the steps suggested to remove IE 10 that were posted. Challenged immediately - in control panel i do not have a "programs and features" option. The only program option is to uninstall and i dont see IE in that list. Any suggestions from would be greatly appreciated.

pattijean, In windows 7, it's called "Programs and Features" but your version should be similar, but with different names for things.

Inside that program removal box, look for a link to "Installed Updates" or something like that. That's where you should be able to find IE10 and remove it.

Good luck.

Since PhotoSuite 4 and 5 are all giving you problems and since other suggestions are too complicated, why are you not just using the Windows image editing program (link)? or something like paint.NET (link) ?

I've tried a lot of different programs, including paint.net, but PhotoSuite 4 is the only program I've found that will paint with transparency.

But you already found a solution that worked for you. Other posters may not be as lucky.

Did you try the plug ins for paint.Net? Their forum talks about them.

OKAY EVERYONE I HAVE GOOD NEWS TO REPORT.

I CALLED THE GEEK SQUAD. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY DID - BUT I NOW CAN USE PHOTOSUITE 4 AND ALL ITS FEATURES.

HOWEVER, EACH TIME I OPEN IT, I HAVE TO ANSWER THE QUESTION - DO I WANT THEM TO MAKE CHANGES TO MY COMPUTER.

IT DOES NOT SHOW UP IN MY PROGRAM LIST BUT I'M RUNNING IT WITHOUT THE DISK AND I HAVE AN ICON FOR IT.

Hello Everyone. I have good news for you. I do this stuff for a living and I still prefer MGI-4 over all the other programs that have been mentioned in this post.

Here is your solution for being able to use MGI-4 in Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit). The problem is IE10. MGI-4 needs IE's engine to work properly and the new engine in IE10 is not compatible with MGI-4.

Simply go into your Control Panel/Programs and Features/View Windows Updates (upper left side of window) and find IE10. Once you find it, right click on it and uninstall it.

You will be asked to restart your computer. When you launch IE, you will now see IE9. Voila! MGI-4 will work perfectly again.

IMPORTANT: Go to Windows Updates manually and click on "check for updates". IE10 will appear in the list. Simply right click on that update and choose "Hide". Now close the Update window and you're all set. IE10 will not install automatically and you will have a full functioning MGI Photosuite 4 image editing suite.

Rolling back to IE9 did allow Photoshop 4 to work again, but that caused problems with other programs, including my Norton.

Last month, my boot drive bricked on me, so I decided to do a clean install. After installing Win7 with all its upgrades, it wouldn't even let me install PS4. So, I reformatted the drive and started all over again. But this time, I unplugged the ethernet and wouldn't let Win7 update itself. I installed PS4 before installing any other programs. Then, I plugged the ethernet back in and let the OS do all of the updates it wanted, including IE10, and for some reason, my PS4 works fine. I don't understand it, but I'm happy.
