Dvd's Wont Play In Dvd Player

Jrooms

Question

Brand new 1st time Mac owner. Just downloaded Toast 11 Titanium off site yesterday and tried to burn an Imovie. Tried different brands of dvd's including DL and SL. Tried PAL and NTCS (or what ever). Tried disk image also. Nothing works! After reading all these posts I think I just got screwed out of $80. Need someone to explain why I cant just burn a movie to a DVD that plays in my home DVD player. $80 should pretty much pay for something so simple like this. Its 2013 people. Tips to make this work please? Simple terms would be nice. Or maybe a phone number to talk to a live person would even be better.

Tried to burn an iMovie.
Is this a movie that you recorded with a camcorder? Did you set Toast to Video > DVD-Video? To see if there is anything special about this file, please share the source file characteristics as Toast lists them.

Tried PAL and NTCS (or what ever).
Use the tv standard for your country. Use PAL for PAL countries and NTSC for NTSC countries. See the map. Some (many?) PAL systems have no problem with NTSC material, but NTSC systems generally do not play PAL content.

Tried disk image also.
When you tried disc image, did the conversion complete, i.e. was the writing to disk of the disc image successful? Could you burn the disc image? Did you get an error, if so, what did it say? If the disc successfully burned, did your set top player perhaps refuse to play the disc, or did you see other symptoms while playing the disc? Please be descriptive about what steps (seem to) work, and where it fails.

I am also unable to play it on my dvd player. So I tried burning with a new disc. When I choose DVD-Video, and drag the movie I paid for in itunes, and hit burn, here is the message I get:

“09 Big Boi Ruins Our Social Life (HD).m4v” was not added.

Only Apple applications, such as iTunes, are permitted to burn purchased content.

I have a Mac Book Pro. Does that make a difference? I agree with Jrooms, this is very frustrating and not that user friendly....

This is a different issue. iTunes movie purchases cannot be burned to disc. It has copy protection that prevents this. Since iTunes can only burn audio discs there is no way to burn this movie to a disc. If you have a HDTV you can buy an Apple TV box that will play it on your TV, or you can get an adapter that lets you connect your MacBook Pro to the TV and play it on the Mac while viewing it on the TV.
