How To Burn The Highest Quality Dvd (Blu-Ray Not Included)

I made a slide show in Videowave with pics and (HD) video. I've tried a couple different rendering formats and a few of them look great on Windows Medica Player. However, when I pull them into MyDVD, the DVDs are not as clear. For example - even if I render at SP quality which creates a 5 gig file, when I put it into MyDVD, it shrinks the file to 2 gigs and appears to reduce the quality.

 

 

Are there any ways around this?

Forget about anything other than HQ - high quality in MyDVD. Don't put more than 60 minutes of video on a DVD. If you want more, use a double layer DVD. Most players will handle those.

 

Forget about file size.

 

Remember, on your computer you are getting high definition video but on a DVD (not AVCHD or blu ray) you are getting standard definition 720 by 480.

 

Edit: More information: You can make an AVCHD disc on a standard DVD using your current burner. You would need to have a blu ray player that plays AVCHD discs. Read your owners manual. The downside is that you can get only about 40-45 minutes of video on an AVCHD authored DVD.

Thanks for the reply. Very useful information. Can you walk me through this process if you dont mind (high level)? I have a Lenovo laptop, but am not too versed on DVD burning, video editing, etc. Just want to make my slide show of my 1 year old look as good on the TV as it does on my computer.

I guess you checked your blu ray player and it will play AVCHD discs. Great !

Then don't down grade HD to SD and expect a miracle.

 

If your using HD video edit and burn it to Blu-ray.

I am going through this as well. I find my breaking point is about between SP and HQ anything less than SP and it will be horribly downgraded. I find that I just make an extra DVD, ask my users to pay a little more for it. Or ask if there is anything we can cut out. The cost investment in upgrading to Blu-Ray is steep and you have to have the right equipment to do it well. If your only option is DVDs, then make a few extra. My users want high quality and aren't hip to Blu-Ray yet. It is just a few extra steps for DVD Backgrounds, Jackets, Light Scribe labels, whatever it is you do.

What are your TIME requirements?

 

DVD Quality:

HQ = 720 X 480 @ 9Mbps

SP = 352 X 480 @ 6Mbps

LP = 352 X 480 @ 4Mbps

ELP = 352 X 240 @ 3Mbps

 

DVD Time & DVD Capacity

4.7Gb:

HQ = 1:06

SP = 1:37

LP = 2:22

ELP = 3:04

 

8.5 Gb:

HQ = 2:00

SP = 2:57

LP = 4:19

ELP = 5:35
