Vashbul
During very dark scenes, especially end credits with white letters on a black background, Toast 11 renders the image as a white or very light grey screen with the lettering not visible or surrounded by grey blocky artifacts. 0 tsantee
I haven't seen that before. Very odd. Is this using the DVD video setting or using the Blu-ray? What are the specs of the source video?
0 Vashbul
DVD, and the source could be Mp4 or mkv; doesn't seem to matter. I tried uninstall/ reinstall Toast but it didn't fix the problem.
0 Vashbul
Some time later - problem persists. I also tried saving to disc image, and opening that with VLC player. Yes, the problem is present at that stage (ie. not burned to an actual DVD), so there seems to be something wrong in the encoding stage. As I mentioned it doesn't seem to matter what type of file I start with, so I assume that means there's not a corrupt codec somewhere, or am I misguided? 0 tsantee
I suggest trashing Toast and reinstalling from the version available on Roxio's software updates page. After you install that you'll get another software update notice to update from 11.1 (1067) to 11.1 (1072) which you should do. Toast's mpeg 2 codec is part of the Toast package so maybe reinstalling Toast will result fix the problem. Toast uses the codecs in the QuickTime Library to decode the video. If the flaw doesn't appear when playing the source video with QuickTime Player then it has to be happening with the encoder.
0 Vashbul
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it and it didn't change anything. Is there maybe an encoding codec that I can install separately? Also, when I use iDVD to burn, this doesn't happen. (But I would rather use Toast, which lets you compress more and fit more onto a disk.) Edited May 7, 2013 by Vashbul
