Burn Errors With Toast 11 Titanium

Rick Lavon

Question

Running Toast Titanium v.11.1 on Mac 10.7.5 My drive is a Blu-Ray burner HL-DT-STBD-RE WH12LS3.

I cannot burn a DVD any longer. I get the following error code-

Sense Key= MEDIUM ERROR

Sense Code=0x0C

WRITE ERROR

I have tried 2 different types of DVD manufacturers (Memorex and TDK). I have lowered the burn rate to 2X.

I was burning without problems before using the same discs. I can burn a DVD using the Apple "Burn Disc" option with the same discs. I have enabled Buffer Underrun.

It very likely is a media incompatibility with the drive's firmware. Neither Memorex nor TDK have good reputations. I suggest getting Verbatim brand discs. You also can check if your Blu-ray drive has a firmware update available. If so, that can improve its ability to burn to different brands of discs.

I have a Pioneer SBP-LUN Blu-Ray writer and my problems when backing up files spanning multiple Blu-Ray disks the system will burn disk 1 and disk 2 and then hang on disk 3 and never make it to the final disk number 4. I says it is at 99% but never goes past that. Can sit over night and no change. Tell Toast to abort and it goes into a loop and never aborts. I can read the files from disk 1 and disk 2. System says disk 3 is blank. No compression is turned on. Any ideas why?

I'm sorry but I don't have any ideas why that happened. As I recall there was a problem with version 11.1 (1067) getting stuck at 99 percent but that was supposed to be fixed with version 11.1 (1072). I presume you have the latter. I wish Roxio would also post Toast 11.0.4 for download. The complete rewrite that is 11.1 created some new issues that weren't present in 11.0.4 (while also fixing some issues that were previously present). So I keep both versions on my Mac just in case one works where the other doesn't. I haven't attempted spanned Blu-ray discs so I can't say my experience would be the same as yours or if the problem wouldn't occur with 11.0.4 as well. I don't recall it being brought up before. There are posts regarding interruptions that occur when spanning discs but I don't recall it being due to the 99% freeze.
