MeowEwowE
I am a guru with MGI Photosuite 4, and I am DEEPLY upset it won't run on Windows 8. I am DESPERATELY TRYING to get someone at Corel (they bought out MGI and Roxio) to support patches and I'm even willing to PAY for a patch! I have been trying for weeks to get someone in engineering to HELP. I have had Sony's tier 2 tech try to get it to run with no luck, and Microsoft will ONLY work with the engineers of Roxio, aka Corel. This puts us in a terrible spot because UNLESS those engineers know the code with MGI Photosuite 4, they can't fix it. Yet, they hold the rights to this product and therefore there IS nobody to support corrections. HELP!!! Somebody there at Corel PLEASE... we need a patch! ALL of my files for my work are saved in PZP format and ONLY MGI Photosuite opens them. You can't buy a new computer anywhere without Win8 now, and per Sony, I can't use my old Win7 because the drivers won't work properly. Brand new $1000 computer... won't run the ONE program I need it to run! I'm sick! PLEASE HELP COREL ENGINEERS!!!! PLEASE!!!

MGI Photosuite 4 is over 10 years and has absolutely nothing to do with Corel. There will never be a patch. The program has not worked reliably with any Windows operating system as far back as pre-XP. As has been reported, it may work in the compatibilty mode of newer OS. You realize you resurrected a long dead, 4 year old thread. Perhaps you should resurrect your old computer on which you ran the program

d_deweywright
Actually, you can still get Windows 7, and the "compatibility mode" of Windows 7 is excellent. I was able to resurrect a program that was made to run solely on Windows 98 using Windows 7 compatibility mode (which wouldn't work with Windows 2000 or XP). Another alternative would be to get something like VMWare and run a virtual Windows XP (or older) session that is compatible with your old MGI Photosuite.. As was suggested, you're probably going to have to find your own solution to make it work.

I cannot imagine any company allowing an associate to post a response such as yours. To resurrect an older post is appropriate in certain circumstances. Regardless, why is that an issue with you? It's a current issue so why belittle someone for asking a question? I can see customer service is not your forte. I agree with MeowEwowE. I've just purchased a computer with Window's 8 and am very upset I cannot use this old program with it. Why is it so out of line to adapt this program to work with Windows 8? It installed and worked beautifully on my XP, Vista and Windows 7 so clearly you are wrong. "The program has not worked with any Windows operating systems as far back as pre-XP". All I had to do was change the compatibility settings and it worked great. Sadly, the same does not hold true for Windows 8. I would have loved to purchase a pc without Windows 8 pre installed, but it wasn't an option at the time. I accepted my fate and will do the same with another photo editing program. Rest assured it will NOT be a Corel program. Why update any other popular program then? I've read MANY posts all over the Internet where people are upset MGI 4 will not work with Windows 8. Great company...really listens to consumers. If Corel bought out MGI and Roxio, why wouldn't it have anything to do with Corel? That is absurd. d_deweywright
I'm disappointed to hear the Windows 8 compatibility mode(s) won't work, but thanks for letting us know. My suggestion of running a virtual windows 7 or XP session should still be an option even with Windows 8, but may be more effort than you'd like to make. MGI Launches PhotoSuite 4-Platinum Edition August 29, 2000 The software is from 2000 this is 2013 and five windows operating systems later! You purchased a new PC with Windows 8, if it worked fine under legacy operating systems why are you complaining to Roxio/Corel about it thirteen years later? Do you think there is a thirteen year 'in the future warranty' that software will be compliant? What part of the real world do you live in? I think your complaining is absurd.. sknis
NM Mama, I may have missed someone telling you but this is a users forum. No (or very few) Corel employees ever come to this site. We are users only. If you see the term guru that means we are frequent posters who really try to help. There are things we don't have control over so ranting about old software will not get you very far. We will usually try to get software to work or try to find a workaround. It isn't always possible in the time we have to spend to develop "fixes". By the way, Corel employees have Corel in their profile to the left of the post. I'm sorry to hear that you or a loved one is suffering from CRPS/RSD

I'm sorry to hear that you or a loved one is suffering from CRPS/RSD Thank you for your kind response. Being a newbie, it takes some time to get to know people and procedures. Most people don't know what RSD is...I am sorry if you or someone you know has it too. I've had it for over 16 years...full body. It can slow me down on some days, wipe me out on others, but as long as I listen to my body it is tolerable as long as I have boluses available for my pain pump. Thirteen years compared to what? MS Office programs (1990-1993), Photoshop (1990), and so many more? If you feel that way on certain programs, why not operating systems such as Windows vs dos? I couldn't stand Windows when it first came out and continued to create batch files such as a menu screen with windows as an option (it was the last one and least used) for several years. Why shouldn't devs upgrade their popular programs? As the old adage goes, "If it ain't broke..." Or is that for programs you, personally, deem worthy? At least do some homework before you feel the need to slam someone. I would rather not waste my time so please stop responding. Sometimes things are better off letting go as they are not worth the time or energy. That's how I am feeling about you anyway...just my personal feelings. Thanks for responding to my initial post though.
d_deweywright
I think part of the issue is that it sounds like you're expecting a free update, but indeed you haven't stated that. Many people do seem to expect a company to provide free updates and patches for aged applications that no longer work under a new version of an operating system. Looking at your list, obviously you don't upgrade from DOS to Window 3.x, to 98, ME, 2000, etc. for free, nor do you get newer versions of Photoshop or Office applications for free. And again, I reiterate that you never stated you were looking for that. In this particular case, since Photosuite came with Creator, it probably became part of Corel's "stable" of products, and is a competitor to their own "PaintShop Pro" program, or the "PhotoImpact" application they acquired from ULead. (Personally I liked PhotoImpact when I used that for many years, I've since moved to Serif's PhotoPlus when PhotoImpact no longer worked with the Windows 7.) As such, it's not unreasonable for them to discontinue any development on Photosuite. They have their own product(s) and programmers for their application(s). In this particular case, it just seems that Photosuite is "going away." ...I'm just sayin'.

Thanks for responding to my initial post though. Your kicking a dead horse, no one is going to fix it so you can run the software on your new $1000 W-8 PC. Buying the new PC was your decision, if running MGI PhotoSuite is that important to you, get a legacy OS PC and use it there. This post needs to be closed.
